Syria deploys air defense system, fires missiles at Israel Air Force jets; Israeli missile defense system intercepts missile north of Jerusalem.
Syria and Israel engaged in the most serious incident between the two countries since the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War six years ago overnight on Thursday, as Israeli Air Force planes struck several targets in Syria.
In response, the Assad regime deployed air defense systems and fired a number of missiles towards Israeli jets. None of the missiles struck the jets, though one of the projectiles was intercepted by Israel's "Arrow" defense system north of Jerusalem.

But overnight the explosion from interception of a Syrian anti-aircraft missile was heard across the Jordan Valley and in Jerusalem.
Well it’s a good thing obama made that nuke deal with Iran.
Or God knows what could happen. /s
Is Israel continuing the attempted takedown of the legally elected Assad Government at behest of John McCain’s ISIS sponsoring friends in the Deep State?
If Israel were attempting to take down the Assad regime it would already be GONE.
End Time Bible Prophecy Ping
Very interesting, and most interesting is the very last line of the article, that says the Israeli defeat of the Russian Migs and Sams in Syria led to REagan’s success in defeating the Soviets.
Things could unravel here quickly. We have troops in Syria. I think we need to have more there or at least air cover for them.
If Assad takes on Israel he risks an expansion of the war there, and invites us to go after him directly.
Is that you Patrick Buchanan?.....sarc.
Glenn Beck, the anti-Trumper himself did say a few years back.
“I am a friend of Israel, but I am not a friend of the people who support Israel”.
God has a plan for Israel, for Jewish people and I identify as a Christian Zionist, but Israel has a secular government and the Israel Lobby is a thoroughly secular entity.
It has always been in Israel’s interest for Assad, the ally of Hezbollah and Iran, to be taken out IMHO.
They kept it low profile and shut their mouths while Obama was POTUS, now that Trump is POTUS, a different posture is emerging apparently.
The story of the Arab Spring deserves to be told, the McCain angle, the Saudi-Qatari angle, the Israel Lobby-Israel angle, the George Soros angle (”renegade Jew or loyal Jew defending Israel by isolating Iran”) etc. etc.
With Trump as POTUS, I think Israel feels very comfy about military action in Syria.
Assad is much too vulnerable to take on Israel in any significant way now. He’d have to be insane, and he’s a survivor, not suicidal. I don’t think there will be more than some occasional friction between Syria and Israel for the forseeable future. Israel will continue to reserve the right to attack Hezbollah forces and weapons shipments now and then, but I’d be amazed if Assad puts up more than token opposition.
The question is, what do we do if Assad attacks our troops there?
Israel is taking out advanced missile shipments being brought from Iran to Hezbollah units stationed with Iranian troops along the Syrian side of the Golan, missiles which will be used against Israel in the next conflict and will target Israel’s nuclear facilities and military bases.
The missiles are likely either Russian-made and bought from Russia as part of their multi-billion dollar arms agreement or locally copied versions of the same.
You mean Assad didn't inherit the government from his daddy? I guess North Korea had free and fair elections, too.
If Assad takes on Israel, he’ll be destroyed very quickly. He’d best focus on the terrorists who plan to cut his throat and leave Israel alone.
Assad facilitated the flow of al Qaeda and other Islamists who went in to Iraq and killed Americans and Iraqis. Somehow, he’s become a hero to some on this site despite all the blood on his hands.
If Assad attacks our troops, we take him out. It’s that simple. His survival depends on our goodwill and nothing more.
Those who think Putin is a friend of America’s and natural partner will pushback on your post. They love Putin and anything he does against America and its friends is forgivable for them.
“Israel will continue to reserve the right to attack Hezbollah forces and weapons shipments now and then, but Id be amazed if Assad puts up more than token opposition.”
Your assessment, IMO, is correct.
The sale of advanced arms to Iran has nothing to do with US-Russia relations and everything to do with Russian-Iranian relations.
Arms sales are right now one of Russia’s biggest generators of foreign currency, as well as keeping Russian arms industry going and workers skills alive. If the price of oil goes back to the $100 barrel level this may change.
Don’t read into my post more than there is.
