Wasn’t the Clinton Foundation involved in saving Haiti?

The average food stamp recipient gets $127.57 a month For 2 people, that's $255 a month. $3060 a year. Figuring FICA and state income taxes at 10%, that would equal a $3400 a year gross in income.

Obama phones. A cheap cell phone plan at $35 a month, plus taxes is about $45 a month. That's $540 a year. $600 income before taxes.

Add in section 8 or rent help.

Add in utility help.

If there is a child involved, there is the EITC
1- child is worth $3373. That's equal to working and making an additional $3750.

Then of course there is Medicaid or Obamacare.
That's worth...
If cheap insurance costs $300 a month, that's $3600 a year, or $4000 working, before taxes.

My buddy pays guys $12-$15 an hour to be movers. Don't have to be real smart. Just a strong back.

A person working at McDonalds, playing the system, could add everything else and be equal to somebody working harder, moving furniture.

I wish I could take credit for that idea. It’s actually one of the few things I can remember from a Disaster Management course I took in 2000, but never finished.

There was an entire chapter devoted to that one point. That whenever possible, buy supplies from the locals instead of importing. That way you aren’t just helping people in the moment, you’re also helping rebuild their economy.

It’s disturbing how many relief organizations don’t follow that.

I recall some President of some country in Africa when asked by Americans “How can we help?”

“You can help us by not sending over all of your Goodwill clothing. Our people have no incentive to buy or make clothes. Stop sending us yours! Then our workers can make clothing and earn money to buy the clothing and other things!”

They are NOT 'playing the system'.

It IS the system (and the thinking behind it) that is at fault.

I begrudge NO ONE for taking advantage of all this fine country offers them.

Jest wish we dinna offer so dang much!

If you are going to provide food relief in a country with food shortages, you should first buy up all the locally produced food and distribute it.
That way farmers and other food producers are encouraged to keep producing, rather than being put out of business by ‘free’ food.
If the farmers go out of business, the famine will never end...

But if the local farmers make money, there will be fewer people to “help.”

Well, if you are sane, and not evil, that is the goal...
