One Chicago kindergartner wanted to feed the homeless instead of throw a birthday party.
Armani Crews, who turned 6 earlier this month, had been begging her parents for "a few months" to feed homeless people in her community, but her parents thought "she was joking," her mother, Artesha Crews, told ABC News.
"I said, 'OK, we'll make some sandwiches,' to which Armani said, 'No. I want the same thing we'd have at my birthday party,'" her mother recalled.
Even when her father, Antoine, informed her that if she wanted to go through with this, she wouldn't get a birthday gift, the girl, whose birthday was March 5, persisted.
So the Chicago family spent about $300 buying food to deliver to homeless people in the city's East Garfield Park neighborhood. They purchased chicken, fish, spaghetti, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, cake, cookies, fruit and water.
After Armani mentioned her plan at the family's local church, congregation members donated other items to create care packages for the homeless.
Each care package included a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hand sanitizer and a snack, such as a granola bar.
Armani's birthday party was a success, with the family feeding more than 125 people who gathered.

It’s all Ivy League prep...though she’s probably already a lock but why take chances
Sure she did.
A blatant case of child exploitation by abusive adults.
This little girl has been ruined for life by the infusion of social awareness imposed on her.
I learned this many years ago. Usually no one ends up in front of a TV camera or the subject of a newspaper article by happenstance. There is always more going on behind the scenes.
then do it humbly and quietly. NO need to call in the newspapers for a photo op. BTW, you think the kid did that, too? that is Mom/ Dad.
We donate to the poor all the time and don’t need an atta-boy.
The story now reeks of BS publicity stunt instead of a true act of charity.
“infusion of social awareness”
More like infusion of fake sociology.
Well, it takes a village...
If the child felt God’s calling to help homeless people, let it be. Have we all become so jaded that we can’t believe a child would want to help people in need?
The poor girl lost her father suddenly 2 months ago. I know deep down she never wanted to give away her presents in the first place.
Six-year-old already trained in Virtue Signaling.
Virtue signaling at its worst.
Remember the days of “The Poor House”? We had one for destitute people years ago —no living on the street but we did have hobo camps and tramps knocking at the back door asking to do chores for a meal. Poor house folk worked a farm if able bodied, raising their own food. All this before the democrat party turned communist and the republicans were actually conservatives.
virtue signaling.
I think some are missing the bigger point here:
“Armani’s birthday party was a success, with the family feeding more than 125 people who gathered.”
NONE of us know the genesis of this girl’s generosity. Perhaps an extended family member spent some time on the streets and she (yes, it’s possible for a six-year-old) wanted to make a difference.
How about praising the kid and dispensing with the darker theories?
Well, congratulations to that sweet child and her family for their generosity. It turned out well, I think, for a number of people, and we all need to have our generous moments.
But can’t help but think about another story.
Did you hear the one about the little girl who passed a homeless beggar on the street and felt so sorry for him. She decided to visit a businessman and ask for money to give to the homeless man. The businessman said sure. This is how they could do it. She could spend a day weeding his garden and clipping his hedges. It would be hard work, but then he would give her $100, and she could take that to the homeless man. She thought about it and answered, well why can’t the homeless man weed your garden and clip your hedges and then you give him $100? Hmmmm, good idea, he responded, welcome to the Republican Party!!
I always suspect as much. Probably because the older I get, the more cynical I get.
This girl has been badly brainwashed. Why is a 6 year old so political? She is supposed to be playing with dolls. She should be debating which is better ‘my little pony’ or ‘pokemon’. I’m sure she’s ready to run for president.
I raised three kids, and never spent $300 on any one birthday for them.
I was obviously a horrible parent.
No 6 year old would give up her birthday stuff.
This was an adult convincing her to.
You aren’t wrong. You’re catching flak due to being over the target.
While there are true acts of kindness every day, this one is so politicized that I call BS. The parent(s) are LIBs and this is a pathetic exploitation and brainwashing of this little girl.
