Agree 100% with JimRob on this one. The Republican Party ran on FULL REPEAL and they need to deliver on that now that they both houses of Congress AND the presidency. They passed a FULL REPEAL numerous times when Obama controlled the White House and could veto the bill. NO EXCUSES!
Anything less or any attempt to keep the "good" parts of Obamacare and/or amend it to produce a "better" version will be a betrayal of that promise. AFTER full repeal has been passed and Obamacare has been left in the dustbin of history, THEN we can start over from scratch and discuss alternates (and my preference would be to "replace" Obamacare with nothing.)
The public (and that includes Independents) WILL punish Trump & the GOP during the midterms if they simply give us Obamacare Lite.
The GOP doesn’t get it and seems Trump is missing it too. The GOP was swept into Congress big time in 2010 on the promise they would stop Obamacare. Even Ted Kennedy’s seat was given to the GOP that year. The GOP lost that fight - even though no GOP votes went for it - in the lame duck session after the election when Reid and Pelosi and Obama bribed its way into passage before the GOP took control.
And ever since they have promised repeal. They have promised other reforms. Yet with control of Congress they have done nothing they promised. They could have sent a repeal bill to Obama - let him veto it. At least then they would have fulfilled a small part of their promise and shown themselves worthy of support.
The reason Trump knocked off 16 other challengers in the GOP primary is because the base is sick and tired of GOP politicians. They promise one thing at election time and then go back to business as usual. Trump is President because the people - not just GOP voters - are tired of the deceit. They want action on the promises they made. They chose Trump because they hoped he would not be just another snake in the grass politician.
They need to have their feet held to the fire. They need to come through. One thing Trump’s election should be telling them is that there are alternatives. Just because GOP base won’t vote for a Democrat doesn’t mean the base will vote for a GOP. They can suffer primary defeats. They can be challenged by independents or by outsiders. If an outsider can win the office of POTUS then an outsider can win any congressional district and any senate seat. The GOP backslid for years and had Obama to blame. No more. It’s put up time for the GOP. Drain the swamp by unclogging the pipes cluttered with these destructive laws.
