How doo you keep the rice out of the hands of the islamists who are causing the famine?

Giving free food to Africa, Asia or anywhere else has the effect of driving the cost of food down so that local farmers can’t make a living. Who can farm rice or corn, try to make a return when the US provides free food?
If farmers can’t make a living, they do other things and the cycle of poverty is exacerbated.

The problem is that you usually have a tyrannical government that abuses its people with little or no economy.
Aid is only a “bandaid” (pun intended) and the aid sometimes ends up enriching the tyrant and doing little to help the suffering people.
You need a viable industrial infrastructure to support a large society. This cannot happen during civil war.

Although I'm certainly no expert on issues such as famine *or* Africa I have seen horrible malnutrition (red/orange hair, big bloated belly, little stick legs) in Africa.Thirty five years ago it was...it's an image that's as clear in my mind today as it was when I was seeing it.
My (rather limited) experiences traveling in Africa suggest to me that corruption...particularly *government* corruption...is a major factor in Africa's woes.
If I'm correct to believe that it seems imperative that any efforts to help distressed people there cannot go through the hands of local,or national, officials.
Just sayin'...
To: CharlesOConnell
The root causes of famine are disease, war, colonialism and socialism. All of the countries in the region suffer from a combination of war, caused by Islam and socialism, caused by corrupt politicians.
Any attempt to resolve the problem without eliminating militaristic Islam and political corruption will just result in dependency and the suppress local initiative. Just shipping in food won't help. The guys with all the guns will just steal it. it's been tried before.

It's terrible.
Another thing that was ignored while Obama was president.
It's another reason to bring them here and another reason to attack Trump for extreme vetting.
The narrative is being set up..

President Trump could do that by killing off all of the muslim and tribal warlords who lord over those godforsaken African lands.
But that isn’t going to happen, because all of the scumbags at the UN would be kicked off of their gravy train.
Oh, and throw in the fact that the tribal Africans and the fundamentalist muslims flat out refuse to advance from the 7th century means that Africa will always be ruled by the most ruthless ones out of the bunch.

Stop spending and let those people figure out their own problems!

Sending food only worsens the problem since their farmers can’t compete with free food.

Africa has periodic droughts which devastate harvests.
However, the causes of Famine always include local sin - either central government corruption, tribalism, local animosities, the desire to “make surplus grain into beer”, etc.
Without these additional factors, crop losses due to drought would seldom lead to severe famine.
If we ship food to Africa, in addition to being very inefficient, it will create numerous opportunities for graft.

Why is this Trump's problem?
Africa is poor because they reject God, they reject capitalism, they reject the rule of law, and they embrace Islam, military dictators and corruption.
If I was President of Liberia, I would have that country a free-market, vacation paradise within 5 years.
To: CharlesOConnell
Africa's problem is not a shortage of food. There's plenty of food in Africa, much of it under the careful watch of men wielding Kalshnikovs.
They make the decisions who will eat it. And if we send more food to Africa, they'll choose who eats that as well.
But, as always, the men with rifles will eat first.

Go ask Bill and Melinda, Grandpa Warren, Mark Zuckerberg, Leonardo DeCaprio, Meryl Streep, and all their buddies for the cash and the means to get this done.
It’s high time they start giving until it hurts.
