Does Times Reporting Support Donald Trump’s Wiretap Claim? (NY Times Implosion Underway)
The New York Times ^ | MARCH 8, 2017 | Liz Spayd THE PUBLIC EDITOR

Posted on 03/08/2017 7:32:28 AM PST by Helicondelta

Several readers have written in this week saying they’re having a hard time squaring The Times’s own past reports of wiretapping with the paper’s assertions that there is no firm evidence that any warrants for wiretaps have been issued. Readers also expressed confusion with The Times’s assertion that it would be illegal for a White House to receive information about such investigations, when its own wiretapping story in January said the Trump White House was given some information from intercepted communications.

“For months now the NY Times and many other mainstream news sources has been running stories based on anonymous leaks saying that a massive investigation was going on into Trump and company’s Russian dealings based on wiretaps and intel intercepts,” wrote John Penley of Asheville, N.C. “Now Obama officials are saying this all never happened so my question is this: Why have the NY Times and others been saying it has for months now basing their stories on anonymous leaks?”

I reached out to editors in the Washington bureau to seek their help in clarifying the difference between Clapper’s — and The Times’s — assertions that no warrants had been issued, and the reference to wiretapping in the January story.

Obama micro-managed everything. You bet he ordered it.

“They can always use the excuse that their gathering information about Manafort et. al. was INCIDENTAL.”

Warrantless surveillance in the US soil only applies to suspected terrorists:

Flynn was in the US soil.

Obama is parsing... he might not have ordered it, but wink-wink, he knew about it.

As a matter of policy, he never "interferes", so apparently he was helpless to stop it. Ha ha

That’s entirely likely and I have nothing whatsoever against ADM Rogers; I can’t say that about Comey or Brennan. However, the most likely - but not the only - agencies that could pull this off are: 1) NSA - the easiest; 2) FBI - next in line; or 3) CIA - special elements thereof. If it was the NSA or elements thereof that did it, Rogers needs to find out who, how, when and under what authority - unless he’s already told President Trump and Mike Flynn, the latter of whom ADM Rogers knows very well.

“Elisabeth Bumiller, the bureau chief, said the January story was referring to information picked up from wiretaps and other intelligence collected overseas, a process that requires no warrants.”

How did they pick up a transcript of Trump’s recently resigned NSA director’s phone conversation while he was in Trump tower with the Russian ambassador who was in the US at the time if this was “from wiretaps overseas”.Ditto with Trump campaign staff,Manafort and Page, who are US based. How were they able to clear them of nefarious relationship with the Russians if intel or the FBI never interviewed them? Were they being monitored in the US “from overseas”?
Were they using British M16 as proxy to monitor without a warrant?

” Lynch worked for Obama and only an idiot would believe that she didn’t follow his orders. “

What was said on the tarmac between Bill Clinton and Lynch? She didn’t have to tell Obama because the media, democrats an d Obama would run cover for them. That’s how Obama got away with everything.

What I would do in this case is once the correlation could be made between the Slimes, the FISA request, the leak and who ordered it, I would have Carlos Slim extradited to the US to be charged with conspiracy.

“Obama is parsing... he might not have ordered it, but wink-wink, he knew about it.”

Exactly.

Soetoro would never leave a paper trail on something like this. All it would take would be a private conversation between him and Loretta Lynch.

Soetoro: “It’d be a real shame if Trump was surveilled and found to have been having damaging conversations with the Russians.”

Lynch: “Yes, Mr. President.”

It is a safe bet that Admiral Rodgers has started the job of pulling the poison weeds out of NSA. Any of those whose were involved in this illegal monitoring.

Then, he will be turning over to Sessions the names of the NSA spooks involved in this vile action.

The guilty CIA spooks and FBI thugs might want to run to another country before this data goes out.

Yup. And just because he says so, it must be true. He is a known liar — I am still waiting for my Obamacare saving of $2500. NOT! Because I know that he is a liar.

1) You are essentially correct unless those “foreigners” happen to fall under the broad meaning of “US Person”, which includes a whole range of entities that may not be US citizens.

2) Again, essentially correct, but the proceeds (internals and externals) are classified and subject to national security laws and regulations.

3) Correct. The Bureau submits a FISA affidavit to DOJ that documents the probable cause to initiate electronic surveillance (not just “wiretaps”) against the target, which may be a US Person. DOJ then requests a FISA warrant from the FISA court, which consists of 12 (I think that’s the current number) specially-appointed FISA judges.

4) That is not the only crime. It is highly unusual and probably unprecedented that the incoming National Security Advisor - a person who has had TS/SCI access and undergone polygraphs and Special Background Investigations every five years of his 30-plus year career - would be the target of a FISA warrant, nor would a FISA judge approve any such warrant. If the electronic surveillance was done by any agency absent a FISA warrant, ALL of them are governed by special laws, rules, regulations and community directives when encountering a US Person who is not a target of the investigation in the course of routine collection, e.g., collection against a foreign ambassador.

Possible, yes. Likely, I don’t think so. I considered that possibility. If that were to happen, the person who arranged for such an operation would be highly beholden to the country, agency or organization that did it and subject himself to blackmail for the rest of his life.

So, from what I read her say, the NYT’s assertion President Trump was wiretapped is both ABSOLUTELY TRUE and PATENTLY FALSE, depending on what damages Trump and protects Obama best.

Gotchya.

Does anybody with an ounce of common sense believe that Obama didn’t in some way approve this spying operation?

Of course he wouldn’t leave any of his fingerprints behind, but one would have to be certifiable naive to believe he wasn’t involved.

It’s just like a mob boss not “knowing” anything about a hit one of his henchmen carried out.
