The Environmental Protection Agency will announce a change in automobile emissions standards next week, undoing a last minute effort by the Obama administration to lock in the rules through 2025. The NY Times reports:
The tailpipe pollution regulations were among Mr. Obamas major initiatives to reduce global warming and were put forth jointly by the E.P.A. and the Transportation Department. They would have forced automakers to build passenger cars that achieve an average of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, compared with about 36 miles per gallon today

Love how bureaucrats sit in DC and make rules for people who know how to do stuff... unlike themselves.
My Dad bought a 1966 Chrysler 300 with the 440 TNT package. Great car. Before that was a 1964 Chrysler New Yorker Salon w/413 ci. More comfy than the 300.
“fully privatize the interstates.”
All US roads should be privatized. The crumbling infrastructure is DUE To gubmint encroachment. Let PROFIT DRIVEN decision making, which is the BASIS of western civilization, make infrastructure great. Would you give money to a crappy highway or a nice highway? Right now, the gubmint decides where to “invest”, regardless of what the CONSUMERS want. This is what the USSR did and what NK does. China, too.
Get the gubmint of all levels OUT of infrastructure. Let everything be up for grabs. Private companies taking over infrastructure means every decision is made to — eventually — benefit the consumer through increased competition, innovation, and capitalism.
I love the modern elegant look over old rustic feel.
I love my little woodie. Runs like champ. Gets me where I'm going.
Confession: I do miss the infrared wipers, heated seats, cup holders, sunroof in the HP BMW; may I hastily point out that my property taxes went from $500./year to $15.85. Boom!
I’ve got PureGas for iPhone, an app that finds it when we’re traveling out of state for matches.
Thanks. I’ll check it out!
I heard the same story... I do not know if it is true or not either, but to me this is very believable. I was one of the leaders of a hazmat team in a big city and one of our chiefs who rose through the ranks because of affirmative action ordered me to have the team do something that would have been a disaster.
When I told him that the resulting exothermic reaction would likely result in an explosion. He wanted to know how I knew this reaction would take place and when I replied something about the laws of chemistry and thermodynamics. He said he didn't care about those laws and that we should ignore them. I started laughing because I thought that he was kidding, but he became enraged.
But I had people on our hazmat team who would not stop believing that it was possible to get 100 mpg in an old pickup truck with the fabled special carburetor that was bought by the oil companies. I explained that the thermal efficiency of a V-8 internal combustion engine could not be increased enough by superior carburation for an old pickup to get 100 mpg. Even when I tried to show them mathematically that the 114,000 BTUs in a gallon of gas would not be enough energy to propel a two ton non-aerodynamic vehicle 100 miles down the road on rubber tires even if the engine operated at 100% efficiency they still would not believe me.
Winning! Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Used to be cars were built for style, comfort, performance now half of the engineering resources are spent satisfying government regulations this is a step towards normalcy. Lets hope he actually does this.
lol - yep. When people aren’t educated they’re easily fooled. I know a lady (extended family) that is somewhat of a climate change warrior. She is convinced that the sea level is rising......IN FLORIDA ONLY!!! Archimedes principle be damned!
I joke with some, “did you know that most people are of less than average intelligence?”. I can’t tell you how many say “yes, it’s amazing how stupid people are!”, without thinking about it. The irony is completely lost on them.
This is precisely the type of changes I expected under Trump.
MAGA!
LOL! One of the reasons we moved from FL. From 20 feet to 5,100 feet. We’ll stay dry for a while once Antarctica melts all the way. ;-) Posit the following to her and wait for some answers
1. Define the correct temperature range for the planet.
2. Define the correct humidity range for the planet.
3. Define the correct mean sea level for the planet.
4. Define the correct amount of precipitation for the planet.
5. Define the correct makeup of the atmosphere.
6. Define the correct amount of sea ice at the N/S poles.
7. Define/explain past glaciation and subsequent warming without any input from humans.
Interestingly, I have had some discussions with her. I had an answer to everything, so it boiled down to, “even if it’s false, there will be less pollution!”. So facts don’t matter. I then pointed out that the people that are hurt the most by the lack of cheap, abundant energy are the poor.
...she continues to post about climate change and Florida.
Griswold Mobile
Well, I hope they start making station wagons that will hold something instead of these toys they are putting out now, just so they can continue to make their 18 mpg trucks.
I have a 2004 Ford FreeStar that I am nursing - it seems to be near the end of the line for decent capacity wagons.
Nice!
Thanks!
Good, now if they can just get rid of the rest of the stupid crap not needed for the operation of a vehicle, maybe we would have something.
