Maybe to keep the public's focus where POTUS wants it. No opportunity for press to try and hijack the briefing on-camera with their OT questions aka attacks.

If the Presser was televised it would only focus on the wiretapping and nothing else and it would get full coverage on the TV. This other way making it private Sean can be much more in control of the message and hopefully he'll make it a pool presser.

I know for a fact Maggie Haberman from the New York Times is spending all her time tweeting out LIES and RETWEETING out Others LIES IN RECORD NUMBER TIME.
