The amount of homes that don't own a TV has at least doubled since 2009. According to the USEI survey, 2.6% of American homes didn't have a TV in 2015. That's a huge increase from the 1.3% of American homes that didn't have a television in 2009.
In fact, from 1997 to 2009, the percentage remained stable at 1.3%, except for 2001, when the percentage was 1.2%.
The huge surge in homes without TVs proves that companies making TV content can't ignore that viewers are turning to other screens, such as computers and mobile devices,
...
The survey also shows that homes that do own TVs are using fewer of them. There is an average of 2.3 TVs in an American home, down from 2.6 per household in 2009.
...
TV networks have been fearing this shift away from traditional viewing for years and have been slow to act on it. Streaming offerings like Netflix and Hulu are providing fans with their favorite shows and availability across multiple devices.

And a)l those things are on YouTube live, or within an hour.
Even without the flickering the tv ads and some programming (note the name!) try to hypnotize you.
This is done by motion on the screen.
For example, turn the volume on mute and watch carefully.
The car ads will have the cars coming from the left side and then reversing and driving up from the right side, then left, then right....
Watch the graphics on the news channels and the networks channels—the spin and move clockwise and then counter-clockwise and then back again...
You get the idea...
The idea is to get you suggestible so you will believe the propaganda and buy the products.
The TV “programmers” are not your friend.
The Mrs. still watches a few things. If it was just me, TV would go in the trash.
Only thing I need TV for is local weather, and an antenna will get me that.
Hubby has to have cable for Nascar, football, basketball, tennis, car shows.
Now if they’d put on a quilting channel I might be interested. What little TV I watch comes of RFDTV and it good old fashion country/gospel music.
I'm one of those people. I own two TV's however no cable tv or satellite here for five years or so. I have an over-the-air antenna up and watch whatever's on "free tv" ... when I decide to watch tv that is.
For me it's pretty much the weather during the 10pm news and a Chicago Blackhawks game when it's on "free tv" and that's about it.
I do not miss cable or satellite tv at all.
Its hard to believe people still use that old school broad brush that morons use to judge people.
Let that old idol fall!
I was referring the the colluding lying subversive news media. Not some cheap Hollywood production sitcom.
Ya want to watch these filthy propagandist? Be my guest.
I use a video speed controller on my computers. It messes up any hypnotic effects based on cyclical rates. I cannot stand strobe effects at certain frequencies, and I notice it much less at higher rates. Beyond that, I can watch a show in about 2/3 the time. It also really helps on YouTube channels when the person yanks too much or is very slow to speak.
I do, as it happens, share your thoughts and feelings regarding "the colluding lying subversive news media."
Thank you for the clarification.
What did you think I was talking about? You watching Married with Children?
Again, thank you for the clarification.
The only thing I really watch on TV anymore is Youtube, for videos on machining, reloading (ammo), and shooting training/drills. Though as I guilty pleasure I have been rewatching Miami Vice episodes (I like Michael Mann).
It looks like they only count screens classified as televisions, not computer monitors, tablet screens, etc. that can also be used to watch programming. Why be tied to one location when you can take your screen with you?
Then again, I’m one of those weirdos with only one TV dating back to 2003.
