Right.
That’s a horrible analogy.
McCarthy was a great American patriot and as we know now from the Venona Papers, he was absolutely correct about the US government at that time being totally infested with Soviet spies.
The term McCarthyism is in serious need of a redefinition. What the McCarthy saga really proves is that the left will mercilessly destroy, through lies and all other forms of dishonesty, anyone who attempts to shed light on their treasonous activity. This is the real lesson of McCarthyism.
So in that respect, with the proper definition, yes, what the left is doing to Trump, another great American Patriot, is McCarthyism. But we need to redefine the term to be historically accurate first.
By using this term, Trump is speaking to them (or to the fellow travelers, as the leaders simply don't care) in their own language.
It’s not McCarthyism, but Trump is intentionally framing the event in a way that the low-information class will understand (i.e., people who get all there news from Twitter).
