Thank you for this explanation, this is what I have been looking for since this broke. This is what creates real legal jeopardy for Obama and his team. If they received a narrow warrant only for lines to the Russian Bank, then tapped all of Trump Tower, including Trump’s office and residence, they were operating without warrant and illegally. And that would take them down.
Not in a court dominated by Democrats/communists/progressives/fascists.

Meanwhile people can learn more about the FISA courts which I gather from reading about them in the past is a rather specialized set of knowledge for the typical voter, and even for lawyers. In another thread they are referred to as kangaroo courts, so there is some controversy about their use.
