The Disrupters: Silicon Valley elites’ vision of the future
City Journal ^ | March 3, 2017 | Gregory Ferenstein

n just ten years, Facebook built a global empire that surpassed General Electric in market value—and did it with just 4 percent of the Old Economy giant’s workforce: 12,000, compared with 300,000. Whatsapp, a recent Facebook acquisition, managed an even more impressive wealth-to-labor ratio, with a $19 billion value and just 55 employees. Combined, both companies reach roughly one-sixth of humanity. Facebook’s entertainment colleague just to the south, Netflix, crushed Blockbuster’s mammoth national network of 9,000 stores and 60,000 employees with its more nimble workforce of just 3,700 employees. It’s easy to see why: for just $10 a month, Netflix consumers could enjoy an unlimited video library larger than any of Blockbuster’s retail shops, without ever having to find their car keys. Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy protection in 2010.

Think "Brave New World" of a select group of Alphas controlling everything and the rest of us being supported and controlled by a Nanny State with Soma, in the form of VR etc, to keep us content.

Hence, the tech industry is heavily populated by what might be called pro-capitalist collectivists.

Soma was the ubiquitous drug the gov’t in Huxley's “Brave New World” handed out to everyone. It delayed the aging process, although one dropped dead around 50-60, and kept people in blissful ignorance.

High-quality software is a cultural artifact.

All cultures are not equal.

We have been brain draining low IQ countries for years. We can do that because frankly the USA a nice place compared to India(av IQ 82) and Pakistan(av IQ 84) etc. Those countries do not have enough indigenous people to support all of software development world wide. They could peal of some of the work but not that much.

Software is much more complex than 20 years ago, The IQ requirement to learn and to then actually produce viable software takes a high IQ, 120 and above. You are not going to get that in the 3rd world. You are not going to entice those kind of people to relocate to the 3rd world. Never going to happen.

You are correct. My daughter and her husband both work in the industry.

Their circle of freinds are all very bright as well.

They talk about the problems of using India based personnel.

Much software work has come back to the U.S. because of the difficulties.

Putting everyone on welfare(guaranteed annual income) will not increase quality of life. It will contribute mightily to nihilism and hopelessness. It will raise the level of semi-organized and random violence in the society, not even considering the minute government control of everything that that entails. It ensures that ultimately the billionaire techies will come to dominate the politicians and the entire society with an enforced morality expressed by the statement, “Whatever is not required is forbidden.”

This is one of the most important articles posted here on the State of the Future.

These Clowns have the money to effect the future that they want: 50% of everything for them and everyone else on their welfare.

How would that last?

The philosophy here shows a profound misunderstanding of humans.

And a power overreach of giant proportions.
