The fast-food chain Wendy's plans to install self-order kiosks at 1,000 restaurants across the country in order to cut rising labor costs amid minimum wage hikes in several states.
Wendy's franchises in the United States will have the kiosks installed by the end of the year, the Columbus Dispatch reported. They will replace some employees to save money but are also more popular with younger customers.
The average restaurant will receive three kiosks at a cost of $15,000.
Wendy's planned last year to install the kiosks at thousands of locations to combat higher labor costs resulting from minimum wage hikes in states like California and New Yorkboth of which have minimum wage rates in double digits, Breitbart News reported.
Wendy's franchises "will likely look at the opportunity to reduce overall staff, look at the opportunity to certainly reduce hours, and any other cost reduction opportunities, not just price," CEO Emil Brolick said in 2015.
Across the country, businesses have had to reduce their number of employees as minimum wages have increased. Many unions are demanding a minimum wage of $15 an hour, which businesses have called too costly and argued would force massive layoffs.
Fast-food restaurants have been exploring ways to replace costly human workers with automation. Restaurants that have already implemented the kiosks, such as Panera, have reported that the machines have been a great relief during rush periods and have allowed kitchen staff to be more productive.
Stupid is as liberal does.
But hey, it’s good for me... I’m in IT.
Governments...killing employment since the dawn of time.
I think this was the future even with minimum wage mandates. Today’s youth are getting exceedingly stupid, and at least a computer can make change without giving you a blank stare.
Don’t worry though, the punks in the back will still be there to spit on your food if they don’t like your look....

“Im in IT.”
Hopefully, some of the laid off will open their eyes to the future and go to IT school. I’m guessing, most won’t though...just go off in search of the next minimum wage job.
It is coming anyway. The minimum wage thing just pushed it ahead a little.
They might, but then they might read that IT School, at least at UCSF, will eventually sell them out anyway.
The actual minimum wage is $0. The wage of those who are not qualified to do the work of mandated wage.
No more hot and juicy?
These robots and apps for our smart phones for each fast food restaurants we go to, will eliminate lines at the drive through and in the store.
In the store or in the drive through line, we will use our smart phones to order and pay for what we want. In the drive through line or in the store, we will click a receive/pay icon on our smart phones and then take our bag of food or pizza.
Target, now has drive up pickup spots for items people ordered on line and eliminates the need to go into the store. That concept will be used by fast food stores. If Target’s dumb management team can make that a success, so can any other company,
Uber or a similar company will pickup our orders, and deliver them to us, where we are.

This of a grocery store like a warehouse. All lights out except for a couple of people who need to reconcile manifests and take care of problems. You go on your cell phone, the shopping list comes up. You select your items, confirm it and pay for it. You drive to the pickup spot and through a portal in the building your groceries come out, neatly packed. Meanwhile inside everything is robotic.
$5,000 a piece to replace people at much higher cost.
Other machines to make the rest of the meal.
How many people lost their jobs because of the democrat party with this stunt?
That's a bargain. Upkeep probably isn't expensive. No employee taxes that have to be paid. Nobody calling in sick.

Even in our burg, Safeway and a good independent, let you fax or email an order and pay on line for or charge to the Independent. Then if the order is over $100, the delivery is free. Under $100, you pay a 5$ delivery fee.
The other alternative that a lot of retired people are now using and Dincs are using.
