Historians rank Barack Obama 12th best President: survey

It’s only been a few weeks since former President Barack Obama left the White House, but presidential historians have already placed him on the right side of history.

AC-SPAN survey of 91 historians and presidential experts ranked the Democrat the 12th best leader in United States presidential history — just ahead of James Monroe and right behind Woodrow Wilson.

Another Illinois politician, former President Abraham Lincoln, claimed the survey’s top spot. He’s followed closely by George Washington, with Franklin D. Roosevelt rounding out the top three.

Experts who participated in the survey were asked to grade the presidents on 10 different facets of their terms in office, like “Crisis Leadership” and “International Relations.”

Obama earned high marks for his pursuit of “Equal Justice for All,” ranking third in the category behind Lincoln and former President Lyndon B. Johnson. He also cracked the top 10 for his “Moral Authority” and “Economic Management,” ranking seventh and eighth, respectively.

The 44th president’s lowest mark is for his relationship with Congress. Historians ranked him 39th, ahead of only a few others including former presidents Franklin Pierce and Andrew Johnson, who was ranked last.

Experts said the passing of time will likely effect Obama’s rankings in the future and remained mixed on whether the former President’s marks were higher or lower than expected,

But it was okay to force it on the southern states with military power?

Yep - right after it was forced on the union by insurrectionist rebel military power.

Be gone, Soros-paid troll. Patriots refuse to be divided (especially by your original post), gaslighting and dividing people about the past. That post was charged with insulting words designed to elicit a response so that you could begin your pathetic trolling. We will not be sucked into your deliberate mis-direction. Too bad for you and your comrades, but great for America.

I’ll take that as a “yes”, you rank Zero higher than Lincoln. Patriots don’t spit on Lincoln.

You know that the vast (and I do mean vast) proportion of people on the right revere Abraham Lincoln - right? If not you should educate yourself to that fact.

Now no one say that you are required - or even obliged - to share that reverence, but discretion would suggest that you not go out of your way to gratuitously insult that vast majority. Calling Lincoln a tyrant is beyond foolish and makes one appear stupid and idiotic. You’re not stupid and idiotic, are you?

Likewise for calling troll. That’s unnecessary and only reflect poorly on you.

Facts are stubborn things and among those facts are that most of this nation loves and reveres Lincoln. He held our nation together when treasonous trash attempted to tear it apart. Now THAT is great for America!

Rockrr,
Facts truly are stubborn things, and on that we agree.

To the victor goes the opportunity to write history the way they please, facts be dammned.

Calling Southern confederates “treasonous trash” doesn’t do much for uniting America, especially when it is so unfounded. They were exercising their legal and constitutional rights.

Although we can argue back and forth about this forever, I honestly think in doing so, we give comfort to the globalists who seek to divide and conquer. Better that we should put differences aside and look forward to abolishing that firmly entrenched global power structure and re-establishing liberty for us and our progeny.

“Winners write the history” - yea and losers write the myths. Actually the Lost Causers have had more latitude to present their version of events than perhaps any losing side in history. What facts are being damned? Certainly not about a legal right to secede. Never was - isn’t now.

I am appreciative of your acknowledgement about casting aspersions - it’s not especially productive.

HandyDandy`”Man”, I apologize. I had no idea that you have been living such a sheltered a life. My condolences. It is obvious you have been tricked into believing Lincoln was a patriot; when, in truth, he was little more than a money-grubbing, ruthless, high-powered railroad lawyer. He most certainly was no abolitionist.

Are you aware that Lincoln declared whites to be superior to blacks? In the fourth Lincoln Douglas debate, Lincoln said,

“I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will for ever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. “

You can’t miss it. It is in the first paragraph of substance.

Are you aware that Lincoln preferred “freed slaves” be exported to Africa, or to other British colonies? For example, in his 1852 eulogy to Henry Clay, he wrote:

“If as the friends of colonization hope, the present and coming generations of our countrymen shall by any means, succeed in freeing our land from the dangerous presence of slavery; and, at the same time, in restoring a captive people to their long-lost father-land, with bright prospects for the future; and this too, so gradually, that neither races nor individuals shall have suffered by the change, it will indeed be a glorious consummation.

So much for his unfettered love of “diversity” and the equality of the races.

Are you aware that Lincoln preferred saving the Union to ending slavery? In an 1862 letter to Horace Greeley, Lincoln wrote:

“My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that.”

Why would he say such a thing if his goal was to free all slaves? Could it be that slavery was a red-herring, and his true motive was that he had purchased land in Iowa in hopes that land would become the hub of a transcontinental railroad and he would become filthy rich? Could it be that he realized the “Union” could not afford the railroad without the income from high tariffs on Southern imports; and if the South seceeded, his hopes and dreams of becoming filthy rich would be vanquished?

Check it out. You will be surprised what you come up with if you dig deep enough.

Lincoln was no patriot, nor is anyone who adds their words to the constitution to reflect something other than original intent. If the federal government had power over secession, that power would have been listed in Article I, Section VIII.

It's American history, man. Of course I am aware of all of that and plenty more. Of course you know he sat down with the Blacks leaders of the times, while President, and spelled out his whole plan for colonization in front of them. They didn't go for it. Frederick Douglas spoke very highly of Abe. I think he said he never met a less prejudiced man.

You and your ilk miss the point of Lincoln's letter to Greeley. "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union." Get it? Not hard to understand. Slavery was a states issue. Not Lincoln's primary objective. Figure out why he's called "Honest Abe". Big man you are to spit on him. He'd have knocked your teeth out the back of your skull. Please re-read his first inaugural, slowly. Yeah, he was a big lawyer for the railroads, also turned down the offer of a lifetime to work for them. But don't forget he argued for and against many times. Big man you are. Sorry you have to live in this country that Abe managed to preserve for you.

I should also point out that Jeffy Davis died a Union man (after all the slaughter he caused). Also Gen Lee, the beloved Confederate general famously commented, “I surrendered as much to Lincoln’s goodness as I did to Grant’s armies.” You got a lot of catching up to do, Obama lover.

"Are you aware that Lincoln preferred saving the Union to ending slavery?" Numbnuts, I mentioned that in my first post. It was his number one priority. What are you, some kind of paid GOPe/Soros troll?

Of course Lincoln’s “paramount” object was to save the Union. How could he cash-in otherwise? Who cares that he trashed the constitution and behaved like the complete despot? Not you, nor your progressive, “living constitution”, ilk, of course.

HandyDandy, you wrote, “You got a lot of catching up to do, Obama lover.”

I thought you were the Obama lover, HandyDandy “Man”? The progressive left loves Lincoln and the destruction he rendered to states rights. Lincoln, more than anyone, consolidated all power into the federal government, despite all the warnings given to us by George Washington. But Lincoln didn’t do it by the will of the people, did he? After all, what’s a little “will of the people” when you have access to all that military might?

Lincoln’s legacy is the far left, big-government progressive movement, which includes so-called “Neo-Conservatives”. You are opposed to state’s-rights, aren’t you, Mr. Progressive?

He preserved the Constitution intact and untouched in its original pristine shape. Not only do I not know what you are talking about, but neither do you. “Diversity”? Did you really use that word? Doesn’t that have something to do with biology and plant and animal life or something? Be gone. You have no power here. I don’t know you so I don’t know if you have always been like this or if you are on the decline. But you should know your limitations.

HandyDandy “Man”, you wrote, “I should also point out that Jeffy Davis died a Union man (after all the slaughter he caused)”

What? Lincoln invaded the South, and the South defended itself. Where did you get your revised history, Mr. Progressive?

Admit it, Mr. Progressive, you are nothing but a George Soros Punk/Troll vainly attempting to divide the conservatives on Free Republic.

I do have a question, Mr. Progressive. Why do you have such intense hatred for American Military War Veterans?

So you believe the lies that the left tells about Lincoln. You are what has weakened this country. Now you are coming into focus. I’ll ask you for the third time: Do you rank Obama ahead of Lincoln? Take a good look in the mirror as to what you’ve let yourself become. I told you everything in my first post (which you definitely took offense to) about me. I’ve been a dyed-in-the-wool Lincoln man since 1963. Please stop making me repeat myself. You’re getting boring.
