Google-owned robotics firm and nightmare factory Boston Dynamics has released video of its latest creation: a two-wheeled, four-legged hybrid robot named Handle.
The robot can stand on four legs, like Boston Dynamics previous creations such as BigDog and Spot. But at the end of its back two legs are two stabilised wheels, which let it stand up vertically and roll around at speeds of up to nine miles per hour. Think Terminator riding on a hoverboard and youll have a pretty good idea of the impression Handle gives off.
Boston Dynamics says the reason for the hybrid design is the simplicity it affords: rather than needing the complex joints of the fully-quadrupedal bots, Handles wheels can speed it around with little difficulty, while its front legs can be used for balance and for carrying loads of up to 50kg.
Handle uses many of the same dynamics, balance and mobile manipulation principles found in the quadruped and biped robots we build, Boston Dynamics said, but with only about 10 actuated joints, it is significantly less complex. Wheels are efficient on flat surfaces while legs can go almost anywhere: by combining wheels and legs, Handle can have the best of both worlds. The video does not, however, show Handle walking rather that scooting around on its wheels.

If it helps any, I'm not either. We can both stay home from Vegas together.
We can all stay home from Vegas in a large crowd! Actually, I’m going to Monroe, but you two can stay home from Monroe together.
I wish I hadn’t promised Charlie a spaghetti dinner, but since I’m not going in to Vegas, I will cook it. He will be on the shuttle, making several stops from 0900 to 1200, +/- 20 minutes, and I know he won’t feel up to cooking anything.
I’m starting to feel like Bilbo, being stretched too thin, like too much bread for the butter.
:o|
I would be most happy to stay home from Vegas with a fellow Undeader.
And now, for my next trick, I’ll go open the clubhouse.
I’ll stay home from everywhere except Manhattan today. Anyone with a yen can join me.
Isn’t the Internetz wonderful.
Have no idea why I just wrote this, it just happened. :)
Back from Monroe. I lost 2.8 pounds last week. Now I’m going to look up some pictures of South American ruins. On the Internetz.
Yes, that was one of them. The lecturer says that structure has the largest individual stones found in all the Inca ruins. The Inca and some earlier South American civilizations were very innovated with earthquake-proofing. The lecturer says that post-conquest Cuzco has been leveled several times, but the Inca ruins just sit there being huge.
Like Tom.
LoL!
The structure looks small at a distance, and then you walk up to the walls...truly epic.
The size of, and lack of number of stones plays a trick on the mind with regards to the scale.
The best view of the place is from the hillside on the other side of the parade ground in front of the walls.
So now we know where at least SOME people went, when they were scattered at the Tower of Babel...
Looks like they took some of the masonry with them. :)
Well, I went to fill up the truck, but couldn’t get the gas cap off. I was about to go into the minimart and ask for someone to help me when it finally gave. I needed that, on top of being immensely fatigued.
When I got home, I wrote a note to Charlie, begging off on the dinner today. I feel bad, but I just can’t force myself. It’s the wrong thing to do.
Zeke met with Eddie the Attorney, this morning, and has retained him in his fight with SNRHA. Eddie loves fighting these Suits! So now, things will begin to go Zeke’s way when it comes to the BS that the Suits are trying to throw at him.
Now, I need to polish up the fliers I’m making for Eddie.
Gotta have a job...;o]
I'm sure Schrodinger's cat knows.
Or when Spinal Tap decides to use it for a stage prop.
Or when Spinal Tap decides to use it for a stage prop.
Good luck on the rest of the day! I’m about to leave with Sally and Vlad on an outing that will have me home at 8:30 if all goes well.
Well..
Actually the required venture to WallyWorld took longer than planned so the work-on-the-black-box was postponed until today..
Right after another cup of coffee..
