Google-owned robotics firm and nightmare factory Boston Dynamics has released video of its latest creation: a two-wheeled, four-legged hybrid robot named Handle.
The robot can stand on four legs, like Boston Dynamics previous creations such as BigDog and Spot. But at the end of its back two legs are two stabilised wheels, which let it stand up vertically and roll around at speeds of up to nine miles per hour. Think Terminator riding on a hoverboard and youll have a pretty good idea of the impression Handle gives off.
Boston Dynamics says the reason for the hybrid design is the simplicity it affords: rather than needing the complex joints of the fully-quadrupedal bots, Handles wheels can speed it around with little difficulty, while its front legs can be used for balance and for carrying loads of up to 50kg.
Handle uses many of the same dynamics, balance and mobile manipulation principles found in the quadruped and biped robots we build, Boston Dynamics said, but with only about 10 actuated joints, it is significantly less complex. Wheels are efficient on flat surfaces while legs can go almost anywhere: by combining wheels and legs, Handle can have the best of both worlds. The video does not, however, show Handle walking rather that scooting around on its wheels.

Oh. That explains it, then. No conditioner?
Since I’ve gone back to castile shampoo, I don’t need conditioners. That’s all we used when I was growing up, but when I got married and left home, I couldn’t find it. Now I have to order it from iherb.com.
I’ve settled for crackers and cheese. It’s 170 calories. I’m series about this...
Awwww...So much squee! All in one place, too! Those are so very tiny, they must be relatively new.
Triplets.
:-)
I don’t trust the one on the left for a second.
As you shouldn’t.
That one is up to no good, for sure!
Squee!
Beautiful!
England is so picturesque.
Happy Mothers Day
Good Evening SG.
Glad you liked them, more pics to come. :)
Thank you! I just got back from my annual outing with my daughter and since we were at Marie Callender’s, I pointed to the booth across from ours and told the story of that night when you saved my life.
She was in awe and thanked you!
*hug*
Happy Mother’s Day to Mrs. n-t-I and all your female family members.
I’m glad you and your daughter had a nice time! My people have all arrived home and I am doing their laundry.
I’ll pass the warm wishes along. Thank you.
Is that squee biting that whatever-it-is? Or is the chin resting on it?
Yesterday was a good day in a lot of ways, and I was very thankful for it. I ran into several people I know at church, and then the lunch with Lablady at Marie Callender’s, which was surprisingly uncrowded.
I was sleeping very soundly and the phone rang about 2000 last night. I picked it up and looked at it and the number was from Washington state. I don’t know anyone there. Back to sleep for an hour, until the phone rang again.
This time I answered it and heard, “Happy Mother’s Day, Gramma!” “WHO IS THIS?” My grandson in Idaho. The one that just turned 30 in April. I’m not old enough to have a 30 year-old grandson!
When I told him about the tradition of the birthdays and Mother’s Day, he groaned, “Oh, no! That means I have to call you again, tomorrow!”
He drafts designs for fiberoptics, and said that Bronco Stadium in Denver was one of his company’s designs. I understand just enough of what he does to be thoroughly confused.
I think she’s just resting. Glad you had a nice day yesterday, and it was great that your grandson called.
I’m going out for my walk with James in a few minutes. Most of the Offspring aren’t up.
I’ll be heading for the laundromat in about 40 minutes. I did NOT want to get up today. At least I can sleep in tomorrow.
It will be good to not set the alarm!
Good luck at the laundromat! I did five loads yesterday, Tom did two, Bill did one. Poor Sloshy!
Wow. Every time I have a washer and dryer set, I tell people I’m either the cleanest person in the world or the dirtiest, because I would be washing all the time!
I only have my standard three loads, but two of them have to be dried, so I’ll be there over an hour today. Ungh...
The little kids sang for the Moms in church, yesterday. I always get a kick out of that because at least two of the little boys have to out-do each other to make sure the respective moms hear “that” voice!
The bishop saw me and said, “THERE’s the woman I love!” He’s such a cool guy. He was my friend long before he was my bishop.
