Former U.S. president George W. Bush said Monday that a free press was 'indispensable to democracy' during his two White House terms – hinting that he disagrees with President Donald Trump's assessment of some reporters as 'the enemy of the people.'
'We need an independent media to hold people like me to account,' Bush said on the 'Today' show.
'I think power can be very addictive, and it can be corrosive, and it's important for the media to call to account people who abuse their power, whether it be here or elsewhere.'

He is GOPe to the core, that’s what they always say. But what do they DO when the “press” exposes one of their own?
The only “account” to which the Clinton’s have been held is in a bank somewhere. Dan Rather tried to screw him using totally fabricated garbage and the press used Colin Powell to stab him in the back, yet he thinks they are essential?? The press is dead, replaced by activist PR flaks with zero integrity.
We need groups like Wikileaks more than we need what the press has become.

W is a decent man but he is being clueless here. The “media” was his enemy for eight years and played a key role in spreading DNC propaganda against him.
George W. Bush was a very nice man who did not like to say a bad word about anybody. He allowed the press to savage him. He refused to defend himself. And lots of good ideas were shot down, undefended. A president needs to fight for the right things. Its not good enough to do the right thing or to say the right thing. When you are president you have to fight for the right thing everyday.
The Bushes are miffy because Trump spanked JEB’s ass. Makes some people angry when they can’t buy an election.
I regret I ever voted for this man.
