President Trump announced Saturday that he would not be attending the White House Correspondents Association Dinner in April, punctuating his combative relationship with the news media. “I will not be attending the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner this year. Please wish everyone well and have a great evening!” tweeted Mr. Trump. The annual dinner is a light-hearted affair that traditionally featuring comedians and the president giving roast-style speeches. But Mr. Trump has been battling the press throughout the presidential campaign and has had repeated run-ins with reporters since taking office. He’s railed against what he calls “fake news” and recently denounced the news media as “enemies of the American people.”

Aha, the phrase "independent news media" implies that their focus is on the historical role the media once played in the distant past, but hasn't for 2 or 3 (or more?) generations now.

Obama started the nasty insults of Donald Trump at this gathering of the Democrat media back in 2011. (Look up “Obama insults Trump at Dinner.”) No one should be surprised that he is not attending, because the presidency would be dragged into the sewer. He should say he refuses to encouraging bullying.
He should show them his generosity by increasing the percentage of alcohol in the beverages they are drinking. For example, wine is typically 9%-16%, so have them increase it to 25%. Because they are on expense accounts, it is unlikely they will object to it.
Imagine how much more entertaining the event would be with a room full of sloppy drunks.
I expect no less. I expect Pence not to be there.
