The death of Fox News contributor Alan Colmes, who passed away in New York City this week at the age of 66, has been greeted with an outpouring of emotion from the channels on-and-off-the-air talent. Colmes, it seems, was a nice guy, a good friend, and an ideal colleague: all qualities one would imagine people who have had to spend their lives around the likes of Roger Ailes and Bill OReilly would welcome. And while one should usually view tributes to the recently departed with a forgiving cynicism, in this case they are all too believable: Colmes was the most absurd, useless, and mocked television personality in America for many years, precisely because he was nice. In the context of Fox News, being a nice guyand a liberal nice guy at thatmeant being a buffoon, and a patsy. Colmes not only played the part to perfectionhe defined it.
Colmes had a radio career, but he will almost surely be remembered for his job co-hosting Hannity & Colmes, the dreadful, morally bankrupt, Foxified version of Crossfire that ran for a dozen years and birthed the even more dreadful and morally bankrupt Hannity. The joke about Hannity & Colmes was always that Hannity dominated it to such an extent that Colmes was left as a mere bystander, asking soft questions while Hannity berated whatever liberal guest they brought on that night. This was of course trueColmes air of nearly amused passivity became a running joke in itselfbut it understated the way the format of the show set him up to fail. . .

My feelings as well. To me, Colmes was like a liberal neighbor with whom I could disagree but we could always trust with a house key to take care of our pet Guinea pig while we were away, just as they trusted us with a house key to look after their cat when they were gone.
Liberals are evil—Stalin was a Liberal —he was uber Evil—killing millions. The core that they believe they have all the answers and if you don’t tow the line you are evil and must be killed. The ends justify the means. Look at the way these guys are acting?
I know.
They are even worse when dealing with “their own”.
Liberals are seething with hatred now. It’s like an infection they always had, but though it dwells in their lymph system, at the moment it’s a chronic puss enflamed abscess at the surface of the skin.
Hence the belief that a male is really a female, it they say so.
So do these people
I thought Colmes was goofy and foolish, but he didn’t display the childish, mentally ill behavior of the Isaac Chotiners on the left
HTML challenged!
Alan Colmes didn’t taken non-liberal positions like David Brooks takes non-conservative positions.
Slate was a pos rag twenty years or so back and it just gets worse.
I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that he and Hannity tossed back a few after the taping was over. They seemed to get along pretty well. Colmes wasn’t a ‘hater’ like the current batch of libs are. CNN and PMS people are plain f’ing nasty!
All of you DU lurkers out there, take note. If the Progs ever really do take control, they'll come for you as much as they come for us. You can never be ideologically pure enough for a true believing socialist.
“All I was saying is that FR people are a lot kinder than liberals when somebody (anybody) dies.”
I was recently scolded by someone here for being insufficiently empathetic about some liberal suffering (I don’t even remember what it was, or if someone died or not.). I thought that was very kindly of my scolder, but I didn’t change my views, although LOL I can no longer remember them and it really wasn’t so long ago.
I did feel bad abut Alan Colmes dying, he did seem like a nice fellow. And he was no Clark Gable, but I heard him once on radio and realized he had a fabulous voice.
+1 Nothing to add to that.
The left is at the point again where they would happily send conservatives to the gas chambers.
This twerp has FAIRY written all over him.
You should be ashamed!
Well, we DO indulge in our share of “Schadenfreude”, but it usually is not as vicious as what has been exhibited on such sites as DU.
The only thing I can say about Colmes is that he always, ALWAYS, made me want to reach through my television and smash his smarmy face.
