It was a more formal society....you must have grown up in or near a city.
Trust me out in the country those were considered marrying and burying clise
I don’t think that woman in the picture was wearing a scarf to appease the grand mufti of Lebanon.
Not sure what point you are trying to make. This is not a thread about women’s fashion.
And she married a Monacoan
Imagine how much differently the press would have reacted if Hillary Clinton had refused to meet with some conservative Christian leader because he insisted that she wear a dress.
Do you still wear suit, tie, and hat every day?
I remember that too...but most of the time it was to stop the wind from messing up their hairdo.
Most of the European "far right" are fanatically anti-Jewish and anti-Israel. They are not the friends of American conservatives and are not nice people.
Look at pictures of the crowds at baseball games in the 20’s/30’s/40’s. Almost every man in the picture is wearing a suit and tie.
That describes my grandfather to a tee. he always wore a suit or at least a sport coat and tie and always, always wore a hat. He was a sharp old guy.
And that is in the city. It was a sign of prosperity.
Look at pictures from farm and ranch communities....dressing up was for special occasions not everyday wear.
Best response ever.
I'm not sure I understand all these responses regarding what women (let alone men) used to wear. As others have stated, this is not about fashion. It's about being forced to wear something because of misguided religious beliefs. What does the fact that my mother wore a hat 50 years ago (because she wanted to) have to do with this?
Good for her.
I’m 73. We wore headscarves because they hadn’t come up with winter hats for women yet. Never in other seasons except for church....I’m Catholic.
quote-When I was a kid, practically all women wore headscarves................
nuns in habits, muslim or non western women in headscarves and amish women who cover their hair, are doing what the apostle Paul described to the Corinthians.
And it wasn’t sexism but governmental order and honor for one’s head(ship)..
And the modern western world absolutely prefers eve and her curse..(btw, which may be one reason why islam is being invited into the west without the full support of Judaism or Christianity)
Amazing to see what muslim and non western women, who culturally wear a covering on their head, actually follow scriptures that they probably have never read..
while those who have read it, ignore it or cast it as sexist..
maybe both done out of ignorance but that is another reason why scripture says satan deceives the whole world..
quite a world... america hasn’t had a woman president for a host of reasons- one is that the country represents the ‘kingdom of heaven’ in a natural sense-given the name ‘america’..and the govt of God is patriarchal.
But the desire of eves for the position of adam hasn’t changed..(Genesis 3:16)
and neither has the adam’s listening to their wife...(Genesis 3:17)
so the curses of the garden continue..
My dad, too.
Thanks, not the first to show that it was a fashionable look, for hairdo, etc. However, those that wore it for those reasons were not doing so to appease a Muslim.
