Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) ripped fellow Republican Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) on Sunday after McCain criticized President Trumps escalating war of words with the media.
He argued that the nation is very lucky that Trump is president and not McCain, who won the 2008 GOP nomination but lost to Barack Obama in the general election.
Paul said that McCains recent criticisms of Trump are driven by his personal dispute with the president over foreign policy.
He added that McCain and Trump are at odds because McCain supports the wide deployment of U.S. troops to protect and promote American interests abroad while he characterized Trumps views as closer to a realpolitik approach to foreign policy. Everything that he says about the president is colored by his own personal dispute hes got running with President Trump, and it should be taken with a grain of salt, because John McCains the guy whos advocated for war everywhere, Paul said on ABCs This Week.
He would bankrupt the nation. Were very lucky John McCains not in charge, because I think wed be in perpetual war, Paul added.
McCain in an interview with NBCs Meet the Press warned that the suppression of a free press can lead to a dictatorial regime. He made the comments after Trump tweeted on Friday that the media is the enemy of the American people.
McCain has also harshly criticized Trumps expressed respect for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his suggestion earlier this month that the United States does not have the moral authority to criticize Russias human rights record.
Paul said there has no effort by the Trump administration to suppress the media, noting that no legislation has been offered to curb press freedoms.
Paul argued that McCain has a history of being wrong major foreign policy questions.
I would say John McCains been wrong on just about everything over the last four decades. He advocated for the Iraq War, which I think destabilized the Middle East, he said.
If you look at the map, theres probably at least six different countries where John McCain has advocated for us having boots on the ground, he added.
Thank you for the information about the Forrestal and McCain.
How do you suppose that story of him starting the fire came about?
That is where the Democrat propaganda about the BS "Wet Start" began.
Please don't equate the Libertarian Party with actual libertarian philosophy. They have been frequently taken over by con men and crackpots. My guess is that true libertarians aren't too keen on organizing or politics to begin with, so the movement is ripe for hijacking. The party has some good people, but the days of serious people like Harry Browne running are probably over.
There are good people in local races who can actually win. That's where the libertarian action is.
Has anybody noted the irony of the author of McCain/Feingold lecturing us on the First Amendment?
Yes, I have. McCain-Feingold may be the most un-American anti-1st Amendment legislation ever proposed and put into law.
I am thrilled Rand called mcLame out on it. McLame is a warmonger. He wants to blow up most of the world. The idiot should be removed from anything to do with the military.
For the most part, I’ve always liked Rand. He went off the deep end on a few issues while running for president but, overall, I like him. I appreciate him telling it like it is with mccain.
Rand has gone way way up in my eyes since Trump became President.

Agree.

Its Libertarian is like the word liberal. A liberal today is not a classical liberal
I like that Rand was able to differ (slightly) on some things with Trump, but did it respectfully, realizing he needs to stand behind a man who wouldn’t have gotten to us to def con one, as McCain would have.
McCain shouldn’t even be in charge of his menu at the nursing home for the deranged he belongs in.
He needs to be kicked off every military and intelligence committee.
I use to think that this man is just so obsessed with taking out Assad but I think something else is going on here.
John McCain intellect is one beer short of a six pack, his elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top floor. He graduated the U.S. Naval Academy near the bottom of his class, many of his classmates felt he only graduated, versus being asked to leave, because his father and grand father were Navy admirals.
In spite of his low class standing he managed to go on to flight training instead of being relegated to a logistics posting on a Navy supply ship. His flight training was unremarkable, he managed to crash two aircraft (albeit remarkable in the sense he wasn’t grounded). Once again family
Navy tradition played a role and he moved on ...
If Bolton gets named to replace Flynn, watch out! I'm already nervous about Mattis.
I was mighty impressed with Rand on the ABC morning show today. He showed tremendous respect, integrity, instinct, intelligence, and articulation in flawlessly navigating the mine field J. Karl was so desperately laying before him.
“..Maybe Obama winning was a blessing from God....”
Much the same was as the Country needed to get shafted by Carter so we could get Reagan.
McCain hasn’t been right in the brain for a long time. It’s time for him to retire, go home to Arizona, and yell at the goats and sheep in his yard.
