California's biggest product export is easily their agricultural goods, especially from the Central Valley, the coastal valleys and the Imperial Valley in what was once the Salton Sink.

The collapse of Oroville Dam would effectively destroy the the majority of the agricultural output in the Central Valley, not only from the inundation of farmland on a huge scale, but also possibly rendering the California Aqueduct useless. That could effectively eliminate the Central Valley as an agricultural region, and the coastal valleys and the Imperial Valley will no way come close to compensating for that loss--a loss that could take decades to recover from. The possibility of a California diaspora might not be ridiculous far-fetched because with the loss of the California Aqueduct, they would need to force a large fraction of the population of the Los Angeles region to leave due to lack of potable water.
