(CNN)If you watched President Trump's astonishing press conference on Thursday, you might be forgiven for concluding that the most urgent problem facing America is that the media "is out of control." Some media "is fantastic," the president allowed. But on the whole, journalism is plagued by "false, horrible, fake reporting." It's clear that America's new President has chosen his new best enemy. Now that the campaign is over and it's not very useful to drive the crowds into a frenzy of hatred against Hillary Clinton, Trump has found the new direction in which to focus his supporters' animosity. But this time, the anointed enemy serves an even more useful purpose.

“Why Trump wants you to hate the media”
Dont need Trump to give me a reason.
Trump’s just telling the truth about the media. I’ve hated those liars since the WACO massacre coverup they ran.
They poisoned themselves with their own poisoned pens.... murdered their own credibility.
Don’t worry cnn...you’ve not been liked for a long time. Check your ratings.
“you might be forgiven for concluding that the most urgent problem facing America is that the media “is out of control.”
Sorry CNN I didn’t need, Trump to do that. 1988 while in South Korea I watched a TV journalist and film crew in front Eighth Army covering a protest. About eight guys were protesting by a gate and the so called journalist was instructing the film crew to film an angle to capture people waiting for buses as it was transfer point where bus lines cross to make it look like they were part of the protest. I hat their theater and you certainly have strain out the noise they add to their coverage.
I already hated the media.
Yep. Same here. I began to hate and distrust them in the Reagan years, but when I saw the unbelievable double standard in behavior during the Clinton years, it was clear to me I wasn’t imagining it.
For nearly 20 years now I haven’t watched news or read a paper. I don’t need them to tell me what to think of a situation, which is what they want to do. It is why Trump’s tweets are driving them insane.
He just bypasses them completely.
Other than the facts that the media is stupid, ill educated, loathsome, incapable of actual reporting, and has no morals, I can think of no reason to hate them.
Trump wants you to respect the truth, not hate the media.
I second your message to the global Communists!
Frequently when being personally involved with a story that is reported on in the media you can see how uniformed and misleading the press is. It is not a stretch to suggest that they approach every story in this fashion, with an agenda and a will to try to shape opinion to their own benefit or just plain incompetence.
The main thing that media doesn’t like about Trump is that he has declined to bow down to them. I’m sure they feel shorted that his campaign didn’t spend mega millions to run ads on their networks. But mainly they feel threatened that their power to filter the news to the public is in danger.
We often claim on this site that the main stream media is doomed, but the format of this site has been posting stories that are generated in the press and commenting on them. It’s a curious dichotomy that we count on the press to tell us what is going on in the world, but we don’t trust them as far as we can throw them.
Let’s not pretend the hostility toward the media started with Donald Trump. America has been increasingly distrustful of the lying whores in the dinosaur media for decades now. Trump is just the first politician with the brass to call them for the bigots, the liars, and the fools that they are.
And I fell out of my chair when he nonchalantly said this, with enough emotion to let everyone know he REALLY didn't care how it worked out, one way or another:
"...This morning, because many of our nation's reporters and folks will not tell you the truth, and will not treat the wonderful people of our country with the respect that they deserve. And I hope going forward we can be a little bit -- a little bit different, and maybe get along a little bit better, if that's possible. Maybe it's not, and that's OK, too..."
a lot of people voted for Trump because they hated the media a long time ago & cancelled all their newspaper subscriptions in 2001 and 2008! Trump had nothing to do with it. The press makes a story about Betsy DeVos spelling the name DuBois wrong.....forgetting that GOP started moving to create charter schools precisely because Democrat one-party schools weren’t teaching phonics or spelling anymore, opting instead for whole language and self esteem curricula. The press forgets the past, but Republicans/conservatives can’t help but remember the past-——and when the press calls them “anti-science” or “anti-education” just because people don’t want their kids brainwashed & mis educated by commie liberal one party schools........the press deserves being hated for smearing conservatives and printing FAKE NEWS almost all the time.
my opinion of the media is totally independent of what trump does or doesnt allegedly want me to think.
Our decades-long hatred of the media is the fertile ground in which much of his support grew.
yup
aka
I hate all liberal socialists.
Thanks. Any of us could have called them on this one, it’s do obvious.
Exactly right. He said many times that he watches a variety of programs and reads many papers. He likes the media, they helped build up his persona not just in the run for POTUS but for decades. And he knows that and said as much, even naming the shows he watches which media people know is great unpaid promotion.
Like you said, he just wants you to know they are not interested in fairness or balance or even reporting. They choose what to write and how to spin it. A perfect example happened this week: The US changed its position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to where it no longer favors a 2 state solution, instead he is open to whatever the two sides can come to agree upon. This is an official killing of the Oslo plan, which had all but failed anyway. And given the chance to ask questions about this to Trump and Israeli PM Netanyahu, the media instead wanted to spend a 3rd day asking about who spoke to whom in Russia and when. They are not interested in anything that they cannot immediately use to disparage Trump, even when it is old news. Any other President and this I-P policy shift would be front page news.
