Many African-Americans are expressing outrage over a testy exchange between President Donald Trump and a veteran black journalist, with many considering the incident to be the latest indication of his inability to relate to them.
Already skeptical of Trump, many blacks said they were exasperated by the fact that, during his news conference on Thursday, the new president asked April Ryan, longtime White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, to help broker a meeting for him with black lawmakers.
"Will you meet with the Congressional Black Caucus?" Ryan asked. Trump responded: "I would. You want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours?"
The exchange set off a firestorm on social media as many black people balked at Trump's suggestion of an assumed relationship between Ryan and CBC members because they are of the same race.
Susan Rice, U.N. ambassador under the Obama administration, tweeted an article about the incident and called Trump's remarks "notably offensive."
"I'm also really pleased he didn't ask her to sweep and mop in the room where the press conference was being held," Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri, a former CBC chairman, quipped during an MSNBC interview on Friday.
Adding to the ire: It was the second time in less than 30 days and during Black History Month that Trump said something that came across as indifferent toward black people. The president was ridiculed Feb. 1 for praising abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who died in 1895, as someone "who's done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more."
After Thursday's news conference, the CBC tweeted a copy of a letter, dated Jan. 19 and addressed to Trump, requesting a meeting. The caucus said although it got no response to that letter,

Reaganesque Jelly Beans for dessert.

Perhaps it was because she asked the question.
My question is does a person have to be black to be a member of the CBC? I’m trying to determine if they are racist.
Sorry to disappoint you, but there is a Congressional Hispanic Caucus and a Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. Demoncrats will divide Americans into as many segments as they can to combat racism (/s).

There is a Hispanic caucus.
The “Black” carcass is unconstitutional it discriminates against non blacks. It should receive no government support including a place to meet.
It’s this kind of convoluted, hateful thinking that makes me avoid black people at all costs. They are simply not worth it.

Isn’t the author being racist by assuming that all members of the CBC are black, or defining them by the color of their skin?
Because the Black caucus is a racist organization dedicated to the preservation of racism in the usa
Yet it's it's perfectly acceptable to label every white Trump voter as a white supremacist, an islamophobe, a homophobe, etc.
oh no. We are going to lose the black vote in 2020 LOL. But maybe black Men did enough because 20% did not vote for Hillary. As incredible as it is that’s a great number. And the average black person is going to be glad he reached out unless they’re idiots.
I don’t like this whole grouping thing but that’s like Trump out here asking an Italian reporter to set up a meeting with the Knights of Columbus. I wouldn’t think anything of it.
Just this week I’ve noticed that “blacks” have dropped the African American label and are referring to “black people” again. How many iterations have they gone through while they try to identify who they are?? This is only one of several references to “black people” I’ve seen:
“”The Madison students also demand access to the university for black people, including former inmates.””
Negroes
Darkies
Blacks
African American and back to:
Blacks
Just shows Trump can do nothing to appease certain groups. They twist his question into mopping floors. Beyond stupid!
I remember reading the original exchange and it seemed to me she was being testy and basically challenging and haranguing(sp)Trump. His reply was due to her attitude not towards a general dismissal of minorities.
Oh for f**** sake....

Outrage? Are the slave ships still arriving?
Notice that the AP does not allow people to comment on their Fake News. Oh no, Susan Rice who lied on behalf of Obama about the video that never started any riot in Benghazi is “offended”!
TRUMP: Am I going to include who?
QUESTION: Are you going to include the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional --
TRUMP: Well, I would. I tell you what, do you want to set up the meeting?
QUESTION: -- Hispanic Caucus --
TRUMP: Do you want to set up the meeting?
QUESTION: No -- no -- no. I'm not --
TRUMP: Are they friends of yours?
QUESTION: I'm just a reporter.
TRUMP: Well, then(ph) set up the meeting.
QUESTION: I know some of them, but I'm sure they're watching right now.
TRUMP: Let's go set up a meeting. I would love to meet with the Black Caucus. I think it's great, the Congressional Black Caucus. I think it's great. I actually thought I had a meeting with Congressman Cummings and he was all excited. And then he said, well, I can't move, it might be bad for me politically. I can't have that meeting.
I was all set to have the meeting. You know, we called him and called him. And he was all set. I spoke to him on the phone, very nice guy.
QUESTION: I hear he wanted that meeting with you as well.
TRUMP: He wanted it, but we called, called, called and can't make a meeting with him. Every day I walk and say I would like to meet with him because I do want to solve the problem. But he probably was told by Schumer or somebody like that, some other lightweight. He was probably told - he was probably told "don't meet with Trump. It's bad politics."
And that's part of the problem in this country
