The AP needs to be forced to come up with the source (actually, any time we get leaks, there needs to be pressure to get the source or imprison those who publish the leaks. Treason and whistle-blowing are two very different things.
I don’t think this violates the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878. Rounding up illegal aliens is a federal problem so I think we are in the clear on that.

Although, having a thousand, or more, Guardsmen, in conjunction with ICE? sweep the cities, like Chicago, for illegal invaders and or thugs, seems like a strategy that could work.
Somebody makes up something (which almost always doesn't even make any sense.) Example: Russia is the source of the wikileaks documents (fake news so they don't have to pay attention to everything in those documents.)
Media companies run the story, making sure to find reactions from various offended entities and groups. Example: Michael Moore demands that the courts overturn the 2016 election and demands new elections be held (or simply appoint Hillary president.)
White House and other entities deny story, pointing out just how stupid the whole thing is. Reporters however demand direct quotes addressing the manufactured controversy, and when they don't get custom quotes (come on, they only use the DNC’s marching orders for dark responses) they'll call it a controversy that the White House is avoiding.
When they repeatedly get called out about their behavior, they get offended and claim that the White House is trying to suppress the 1st amendment by not replying repeatedly to manufactured controversies.
Repeat.
