BISMARCK, N.D. Federal and state officials announced plans Wednesday to accelerate cleanup at a camp in southern North Dakota that has housed hundreds and sometimes thousands of Dakota Access pipeline opponents.
Officials fear the camp near the Cannonball River will soon flood due to warm weather and rapid snowmelt. They worry trash and debris left behind by people who have left in recent weeks might pollute the Missouri River and other nearby waterways.
With the amount of people that have been out there and the amount of estimated waste and trash out there, there is a good chance it will end up in the river if it is not cleaned up, Corps spokesman Capt. Ryan Hignight said.
Local and federal officials estimate theres enough trash and debris in the camp to fill about 2,500 pickup trucks. Garbage ranges from trash to building debris to human waste, according to Morton County Emergency Manager Tom Doering.....
Were really fighting the clock, Doering said Wednesday. Theres more garbage down there than anybody anticipated.....

Well put and true.
They should order the protestors to come back and pick it up or levy environmental sanctions against their organizations.
For any organization to get a permit for such an encampment, a minimum $1mm bond should be required, for any damages and clean-up.
when are they going to accelerate charges against the protesters for polluting hte environment?
they should send the bill to the most outspoken celebrity that showed up out there... whos the broad from the Green party? what was her name?? send her the bill...
Disgusting.
If anyone is interested here are six other postings about this clean up and mess
left by the protesters. They are from different sources with varying takes.

Helluva way to treat sacred ground!
Feds address the garbage? How ‘bout letting the Injuns address the garbage? Their greenie pals made the mess!
I hope the Wide Missouri doesn't get gonorrhea.
I think that the citizens of this country should demand a DETAILED summary of the costs of cleaning up the mess.

Sounds like a good spot for adump or sewage treatment plant.
Article says "trash and debris" but the quote says "waste and trash".
Could he be referring to human waste.
If it’s sacred ground, then it is protected by the Feds.
The BUNDY’s are in jail for letting their cows graze on Federal Land. Nothing the Bundy’s did compares to the damage these ‘protesters’ caused.
No thank you.
Welcome to the snowflake generation and the disgraceful youth that cares not a whit about America. Lazy, preening useless humans.
America is awash in them and illegal filth too. Shoot straight.
