I cant believe Im writing this after the administration has been in office for 26 days, but here goes. The idea that Donald Trump is now inexorably on a path to impeachment has taken almost gleeful hold in the wake of the Michael Flynn resignation among liberal elites and anti-Trumpers generallyand everybody better stop and take a deep breath and consider what might arise from this. This isnt fire were playing with, its a nuclear war.
That Trump might somehow be deus-ex-machina-ed out of public life has been a consistent feature of the past 20 months. He wont run gave way to Hes only in it for the publicity to He only wants to show Obama hes not to be trifled with but he doesnt want to be president so hell drop out to Well deny him a first-ballot victory at the convention and then the party pooh-bahs can take over and find a new candidate to His poll numbers are so bad hell quit and let Mike Pence run against Hillary to The Access Hollywood tape will finally do him in and then he won. Now that hes president, the question Im asked constantly is will he serve out his first term. The wish is father to the hope here; only the vilest and most monstrous of crimes has led to a negative answer to that question (save in the case of the first President Harrison, who caught a cold from not wearing a coat on Inauguration Day in 1841 and died a month later). No one has ever willingly or voluntarily given up the presidency.
The dream of his self-willed departure is just thata dream. Which then leads to the question of whether his behavior or choices or emoluments will lead to his impeachment and removal from office. Remember, impeachment is not removal. It is an indictment of the president, brought about by a vote of the House of Representatives, which then refers the case to the Senate. The Senate tries the case and can only remove the president from office with a two-thirds vote.
Presidents have twice been impeached (Johnson, Clinton) and neither was removed. Nixon resigned but that was to avoid his impeachment, which would surely have led to his removal.
Lets play with this scenario for the moment. The only way Trump will be impeachedby a Republican House!is if there is unshakable, inarguable, and (forgive me) unimpeachable evidence that he has committed a crime as president. The Constitution requires this, actually; he must be accused of treason, bribery, or other high crimes or misdemeanors. He has to have done something specific. He must, in effect, be charged. How on earth could this happen when Republicans hold a 50-seat majority in the House? Even if he mugs an old lady on Pennsylvania Avenue, its hard to see that happening sheerly as a matter of politics unless something catastrophic happens to his poll numbers. By which I mean, he needs to have become so overwhelmingly unpopular already that Republicans in the House who come from districts Trump won need to know that their constituents will not punish them for voting to impeach.
By catastrophic, I mean his numbers have to go lower than anyones have ever gonelower than Bushs in late 2008, lower than Carters in the summer of 1979, lower than Nixons in the summer of 1974.
And even soeven sounless the evidence is beyond question and beyond all argument, this is an incredibly dangerous thing for people to be speculating about openly. Already pro-Trump voices on the right are calling the leaks that led to Michael Flynns firing evidence of an attempted coup detat. The fevered use of such terms is part and parcel of the way in which social media amplifies the melodrama of daily news stories.
I am myself unnerved by the evidence of high-level lawlessness in the Flynn matter, but a coup detat refers specifically to a military ouster of a leader, not a leak-driven campaign using the press to nail someone. This is sure to persist, though, if the Flynn-Russia matter acceleratesand if the reluctant House and Senate do begin investigating the matter in earnest. If the language surrounding the investigation remains florid and purple, if Democrats try to please their Trump-hating constituents by screaming impeachment and liberal media tries to garner audience by jumping openly and vociferously on the bandwagon, the Trumpians will respond in kind by stirring the pot through their media and their argumentation.
The result might well be violence. Not rhetorical violence. Actual violence. Actual political violence. Actual conflicts between anti-Trumpers and Trumpers. At demonstrations. In the streets. Of our cities. Political violence of a sort we havent seen in 50 years, and maybe havent really seen in this country in the modern era. Those who believe Trump is a unique menace whose threat to our democratic way of life will be met with those who believe the elites are using illicit means to oust the legitimately elected president of the United States.
This is not a fantasy. This is one possible future. And every rational person who cares about the future of the country should be mindful of it, and should work to forestall it.
Pres. Trump needs to take to the bully pulpit at every opportunity to SAY out loud that the unhinged left is driving the left-leaning populace into his court. The press will sputter and deny and say that he has no evidence of that. But the truth is that he doesn’t need evidence; he simply needs to say it over and over. If the press decides to poll the claim, the answer is simple: the polls predicted miserably that I would lose.
As a husband, parent and former pastor, I discovered that people need to hear you SAY and REPEAT that you love them. Surprisingly, in my experience, simply doing good for them is not enough. They will accept your failings far more readily if you repeat that you love them.
I believe that is the way Mr. Trump will pull people over to his side. by SAYING that they are being hurt by the left and that they have a home in the center with him.
Keep praying, folks. Keep praying.
The outlandish behavior of the left could create the very circumstances that they imagined when they thought they could “trigger the right” and place Obama in power as dictator for life. A couple of poorly managed coup attempts and a press that walks over the edge of sedition and Poof! We have an Abraham Lincoln moment. The President put into a position where martial law and supreme power is the only way to hold a failed nation together.
Hey, it’s every bit as good a story as the progressive left is pushing with a much better outcome.
That number was for *all* the people who would not go along with a Marxist government, not just "businessmen". At that time, the total population of the US stood at 200-250 million. In short they were willing to murder 10% of the total population to achieve their 'wet dream'. This was above and beyond the dead in the fighting to get them into the position to actually have those 'camps' available.
The total population *now* is 300-350 million, so you do the math...
the infowarrior
That was the term I remember from the video. I think it was because business men were thought to be die-hard capitalists.
I did the math in the rest of the comment ...
The danger for Trump is if he is goaded into taking a partial police action. The International Socialist will then accuse him of violating the constitution and recommending impeachment. When (and if) the time comes to take drastic action, it must be massive and sudden.
P.S. those FEMA camps originally built for us are still vacant.

“but a coup detat refers specifically to a military ouster of a leader, not a leak-driven campaign using the press to nail someone. “
No it doesn’t refer only to military. Nothing in the definition does. It’s simply the deposing of a leader outside the normal process. It can be military, a leak driven delegitimizing campaign that drives him out, or anything.
And interestingly, a coup can leave the apparent government in power, but remove the leader.
He is wrong in his analysis. And it was a coup move by our national intelligence agencies which are fully in the service of the deep state and have been since their inception.
But nice attempt at sophistry to protect the intel community that made this move.
“I agree that a real coup attempt will be met with force.”
A coup is not always tanks in the street. If intelligence agencies are moving to depose a leader or undermine him till he is removed by a legal process, THAT is a coup.
Intelligence agencies commit treason when they venture into the policy setting arena or into selecting leaders.
Meet fire with fire
I read a lot of this as him lecturing us, to avoid calling the intelligence agencies trying to depose or defang Trump, a “coup”.
The traitors to the constitutional republic must be feeling some heat.
Here is my Comment. Civil War is not Civil.
“The danger for Trump is if he is goaded into taking a partial police action. The International Socialist will then accuse him of violating the constitution and recommending impeachment.”
And instantly, numerous foreign governments, including many so called “allies” will fall into line to help “save” the USA from a Trump regime.
Trump will have no friends internationally.
A .22 will kill you grave yard dead. How much deader do you have to be. And it is not all that loud. Fire one shot, they can’t tell where it came from. Fire two or three and they can start locating it.
Plus, we will go for the leaders.
Agreed. And I think we could make the Balkans look like a cake walk. No sane person wants a civil war, but if you try to detach yourself and see things as you would look at it in another nation, it certainly looks like it’s coming.
A wise person these days would be preparing for anything.
My guess as to the trigger, is that the international banking community triggers the destruction of our economy, blames it on Trump. And when he is the new Hoover, and we are destitute, they waltz in and take over.
It would be a perfect way for them to take over, to introduce a new socialist economy, and to punish and silence the Trump voting public.
But agree with your sentiment fully.
You can forget about the RINOs getting on board. If they did, they would not be RINOs. You need to come up with plan C or D.
