Rumor the German shepherd has become Americas top dog.
Cheered loudly all around the ring by a packed crowd at Madison Square Garden, Rumor was picked as best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club on Tuesday night.
Rumor became just the second German shepherd to win the nations most prestigious pooch parade, joining the fittingly named Manhattan in 1987.

I lived next to “Millionairs Road” in Milwaukee. Big mansions. There was an old lay that would take walks. She had a trained German Shepherd that circled around her as she walked, You did not want to be on the same side of the street as those two!
He did. He’s kinda like Charles Grodin. Even when he’s serious, he’s funny. I read an article about Eugene levy once. He said he has no sense of humor (of course he does). He said he’d work in any movie he’s asked to, no matter how bad, because he has kids to put through college. That whole improv group is solid gold.
Eugene’s courtroom scene at the beginning of Armed and Dangerous is one of the funniest things ever.
“The man had a rug made of human hair!”
“Bad taste is not a crime, your honor!”
Check with the SPCA. They have all kinds of dogs. I have had three rescues, mutts, and they have all been good ones.
That is no way to talk about your old girlfriends.
Looks a lot like the GSD we had before, a fantastic dog named Major.
We still miss him at times.
Glad the GSD won.
I remember it was very popular breed in the 70’s-80’s. Why it seemingly got replaced by the Pit bull I don’t quite understand.
I’ve had many dogs that I loved very much. Don’t have one now but close friends got a rescue dog (mixed mutt-lab and pit bull) a few years ago that I see only a couple of times a month but it’s the greatest pet I’ve ever met. A rescue would be the first place I’d go if I was getting a dog.
Our German Shepherd of 11.5 years just passed away this weekend due to age complications. She looked just like Rumour. We miss her terribly......she was a wonderful dog.
We were taking her to the vet and she died in my wife’s arms.
Don’t know what we’re going to do, now. Can’t have a farm without a dog....but has been pointed out, German Shepherd pups are now outrageously expensive.
Our German Shepherd of 17 years and 10 months and this winner are near identical. Ours had lighter face and ears and larger blonde shoulder saddles. Loyalist and most intuitively smart dog ever.
Did you know this is the same troupe that produced Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind?
I have a white American shepherd, wonderful dogs, playful and full of life. But they are very strong and need to be properly trained. The chase the ball game never ends!!
GS is my dream breed! Had one as a child, before they bred them to have that slope in their hind quarters. (I've heard breeders are going away from that again).
We have 4 cats so din't GS was realistic for us. We rescued a 9 month old mix that's adorable. Great with us, great with the cats, fears strangers to death. Had her 3 months and can't have around people as she wants to kill everyone. Lots of work to do yet with her.
We have had a mixed GS, with we don’t know what, since she was 2 months old. She’s 8 months old now. She is driving me crazy. I’ve never had a dog that just won’t stop. I purchased a bike leash to run her with my bike since I have a bad back and can’t really walk her. So far I have not been able to slow her down, even after a long ride. I tell everyone she has ADHD. lol
She’s smart as a whip but hyperactive as heck!
I liked that slap stick - particulaly the scene where their credit card didn’t work at the motel and they were put up in the utility room.
I understand that some people don’t want a rescue, and yes, some of them are pretty difficult dogs. I rescued a wonderful smooth coat female dachshund 4 years ago and she has gone on to earn her Canine Good Citizen, her Endurance Earthdog title and her Master Barnhunt title. She’s now working on blood tracking and nose work.
However, my next dog will be from a breeder as there are some things that a non AKC registered dog cannot compete in, such as field trials.
Anyway, I went OT a little. Love all dogs...
She's out of shape, but I've been taking her on 45 minute walks several days a week. It's warmup for my walks.
She's got her own personality, and is loving around kids. During the first 400 yards, only my 28 YO son and I can handle her...after that, she calms down. She won't go further than a mile without stopping. We turn back for home, and she's a-ok.
It was a good read. Bravo to you and your dachshund.
