Unfortunately, the RATs don’t understand the words “enjoyed every mile!” In fact they have so engrained in their psyches the whole idea of being perpetually disgruntled about absolutely everything, that the word “enjoy” is stricken from their lexicon. The other word always on the tips of their tongues is “offended.”
I can’t tell because if I look at that picture I fall asleep.
The Javelin is often mistaken for a Chevelle (go check the owner forums as well as the recent Jay Leno video where he comments on that), unless you see the front or the badges the Cougar gets mistaken for a Mustang and the Firebird and the Camaro are easily mistaken for each other unless you can see the front or the taillights (no surprise, same platform).

And you will tell your children “with pride” about your Suzuki Samurai too! I still get to climb into my 1963 Corvette Stingray Coupe and enjoy it every bit as much as the day I bought it new! There are no Japoshitboxes in this household. We buy American!

At a car show with a friend of mine who actually owns a Javelin, about half the people that stopped asked what kind of Chevelle it was. Ages were pretty well distributed from youngsters to grayhairs.
Do YOU really think those cars look alike?
No, but the thing is most people seem to think they do, which is what matters.

The cars are being mis identified. That doesn’t mean they look alike. You are mistaking the two situations.
Obviously the name recognition for 50 year old cars for some gets difficult. That doesn't however prove your point about the two cars looking the same.
Put a 68 Javelin next to a 68 Mustang and people would obviously see that they are two distinct types of cars.

Seriously, the CAFE limits need to go the way of the dinosaur. Technology is allowing the car companies to make substantial improvements without government mandates, and competition forces the best to market (if the gov't stays out of the marketplace. My 2015 Impala with a V-6 goes 0-60 in 6.0 seconds, and does a 1/4 mile in 14.7 at 97 mph. Compare that to my '69 GTO at 7.3 seconds, and 15.7 at 88 mph. Plus the Impala handles better, gets twice the mileage, has zinc-coated steel that won't rust, a MUCH better sound system and Bluetooth. Yeah, it sounds like a [insert female body part] until about 4,500 RPM, but it PERFORMS. Today's V-8s are WAY better than anything that could be touched back in the late-60s and early-70s. Let them continue to be produced.
The funny thing is that at this show, the Javelin was parked between a 71 Chevelle on one side and a 70 Charger on the other. It didn’t help.

P.S. In about 2-3 years, the price to produce shale using ultra-high speed computers and fracking will be about $20/bbl. We could break the Arabs in a few years, just as we broke the USSR. Oh, and have a crapload of fun in really great cars while doing it.

Me too. Almost all Hondas and Toyotas are made in the USA. Have been for years. And many “American” cars are made in Canada or Mexico. Chrysler is owned by Fiat, and all so-called “American made” autos are assembled with parts mostly made in other countries, and that’s been the case for years as well.
There’s no such thing as a newly made “American” car anymore.
