In a fraught moment of political protest across the country, the live mic at televised award shows has become a potent weapon.
As such, Grammy Awards producer Ken Ehrlich has a message for those who will take the stage on Sundays ceremony: Bring it on.
Ehrlich has no reservations about political messages or anti-President Trump statements flying during CBS three and a half hour Grammycast. Artists expressing passionate opinions about real-life issues are the stuff of memorable moments, he said.
One of the tenets of our show is artistic freedom, and over the years weve shown we do believe in it, Ehrlich told Variety. How many more times do we need to hear Id like to thank my publicist, my agent, my wife and kids. The great acceptance speeches are ones that have a point of view and are more personal.
The only guidelines on speech that Ehrlich has to keep an eye (and ear) on is profanity, given the potential for CBS to be hit with FCC fines if F-bombs fly before 10 p.m. But almost everything else is fair game.

“The openly-biased media is already waging the 2018 mid-term campaign”
Yes, and I think they are doing quite well at it. I think they should be political during speeches.
The left should take every opportunity to deliver their message. They also need to work harder at creating racial divisions.
I mean, this worked so well in the last election, they might as well do a repeat. Maybe in 4 - 8 years their party will dwindle down to just the fringe lunatics in California and a few other places.
The entertainment left wants drama and they want hate. Hate clouds thinking. Most people do not want to listen to people who hate. The hate feeds on hate. The protestors thrive on hate. The media thrives on hate.
This will simply embolden those of us who won’t be watching. Same applies to the Oscars.
Blocked those hours tonight. Time to spend with my grand daughters reading, playing games, being a family.
So much anger, so much hatred, so much bullying. No love on the looney left.
Hollywood, the heart of the new Rot Front?? Naaaaah, its always been. Ever watch that WW II Hollywood production “Mission to Moscow”? Stalin even gave them an award for it. LOL, as a side thought, FDR even called him “Uncle” Joe?
Kooks awarding other kooks. Who watches this junk?
Every moronic rant of each idiot on stage will translate to ~10,000 more voters for the Conservative cause.
Three hours congratulating themselves and each other. That's boring.
My Grammys died back in the 50’s-60’s. Grandpa’s way before that.
I do (and so do you).. it wouldn't be pretty, but it's what the bastards seem to think they want.
And yes, it's an unpleasant scenario to contemplate . . .
Pulpit for idiot actors and actresses to show the world how pompous and hypocritical they really are. Dont build the wall but dont say nothing about my wall around my compound, or the illegals they have taking care of the grounds the maid service and the pool.
Really? Does anyone besides stupid leftists and moronic teens watch this stuff? Who cares what they say on TV?
Hollywood is a pile of dung. Don’t watch any of their crap.
Alles Klar, Herr Kommissar?
Ms. Streep, you should always pay attention to which side is smashing windows and breaking things. It tells you how far they'll go.
The simple answer to this bs.
Don’t turn on the Grammy Awards.
I don’t watch any of these things...this is a waste of life...each minute of every day should be used to promote goodness...this garbage is evil...
Have fun making more fools of yourselves, me...I’m quilting and listening to something that makes sense...
If the producer isn’t careful he’s going to turn his entertainment program into something akin to a marathon harrange by Fidel Castro. Most of these stars need little encouragement in that area anyway.
