THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
COLE PORTER
SOMETHING TO SHOUT ABOUTThe year 1943 was somewhat kinder than 1941. Something for the Boys ran for more than a year on Broadway but produced no notable songs. Coles deal with Columbia created a second musical with Don Ameche and Janet Blair that gave the world one of his greatest standards.
DON AMECHE: YOUD BE SO NICE TO COME HOME TO Note that this song is in a minor key but sidles to the major at the cadence. Clips from the film are not available, but Don sang this song on The Edgar Bergen Show on NBC radio in 1943 backed by Ray Noble. He had a passable singing voice.
