VIDEO: Union agitators physically block EdSec DeVos from entering DC school

A mob of Black Lives Matter supporters, union activists and others converged on a D.C. middle school Friday to throw a fit over a visit by newly minted Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

The group toted signs like “I am more qualified than Betsy DeVos to be Secretary of Education and I’m a veterinarian!” and “Ms DeVos: Our children are not props” as they blocked the driveway to Jefferson Middle School Academy and refused to move, NBC Washington reports.

Ironically, one heckler’s sign read: “Welcome to our public school. It’s open to everyone!”

At the center of the mix was Washington Teachers’ Union boss Elizabeth Davis, who held a vigil in front of the school as message to DeVos during her first official visit to a public school since her Senate confirmation on Tuesday.

“Everyone will have a different way of demonstrating discontent with her policies. I understand why some parents are concerned. My message is that we have got to keep the pressure on the Department of Ed., on Betsy DeVos, to ensure that structures are in place that would safeguard our public schools and stay vigilant. We simply cannot be on the sidelines and let things happen to our public schools without voicing our concerns and resisting things that would be harmful to our kids, Davis said, according to WAMU.

Davis wants DeVos to understand that the union and its supporters care more about maintaining the failing public school system they rely on for their livelihood than they do about creating school choice options that are proven to improve student academic performance.

“We want to send the message that we love our public school system. We do not want a market-driven school system,” Davis said. “We want to have support for our public schools and build on that. We are going to continue to advocate for quality public schools throughout the district and in all communities.”

DeVos, accompanied by District of Columbia Public Schools Chancellor Antwan Wilson, eventually alluded the crowd and entered Jefferson through the back door.

Neither DeVos nor Wilson spoke with the media, and The Washington Post alleges DeVos’s office ignored its request for comment on the visit.

Outside, protestors who wouldn’t give their name to the media took turns badmouthing the new Secretary of Education and regurgitating the union’s misleading talking points against school choice.

“Betsy DeVos does not represent our students or our families here in D.C.,” one teacher allegedly told the Post. “She doesn’t have our best interests at heart.”

Others said they were “horrified” by DeVos.

“I really fear for our students’ future and the future of our schools and communities,” an anonymous teacher allegedly said. “Her belief in privatization without equal accountability leaves high-needs students behind.”

what do you expect? I am betting that all of them are public school grads and some have some highly relevant Racial BS degrees and Lesbian Transgender Studies degrees. Some of them may even be high IQ, they just have no History or English or any other of the tools for thinking in their heads.

Agree. The left has entered into a suicide pact with itself on its opposition to Trump. Just sit back and enjoy the view.

I expect nothing less than stupidity. But I do enjoy watching it happen—but not at the expense of DeVos—who the left is plainly mistreating because she is a woman.

The precise date it (the war) will start is unknown

Do you think that people who were around to experience those events knew they were living through the day a war started? Do you think folks living in Ancient Rome knew they were enduring the total collapse of an empire?

My point. The war has already started. A date will be agreed upon for when it started if the forces of evil aren't defeated, soon.

Someone needed to ask this idiot what she meant by this statement.

He tried because he knew it was this bad. I suspect it was a nearer thing or still is a nearer thing than any of us on the sidelines knows.

I think we are in a civil war now, but with no weapons...yet. People would be killing us for voting trump if they had the balls, but they don’t right now. So instead they get us fired, spit in our food, bully us sometimes with a beatdown, key our cars etc.

If the media could be stopped, then these people would calm down. But the propaganda is amazingly powerful! As long as they get a steady diet from 99% of the media sources, we don’t have a chance to deprogram them. That’s why I think we will move toward a civil war of some kind eventually. When we do, the media should be at the top of everyones list. They are the enemies of the country. They are causing this.

Some well-heeled philanthropist should step in and offer every kid in that school a scholarship to a private school.

I watched that video and wondered whether she had adequate protection and support with her. If she had it, I think she would have entered.

It might not have been her people; it might have been the school's people who tipped off the union members and the other protesters. Thanks to Trump Derangement Syndrome nothing would surprise me.
