Are you concerned that Neil Gorsuch belongs to a far-left church?
American Thinker ^ | 02/10/2017 | Ed Straker

President Obama was criticized by Republicans for attending a church led by Jeremiah Wright, who repeatedly criticized the United States for being, in his own opinion, an evil terrorist nation.  People wondered, how could Obama sit through sermons like that, year after year?  Didn't that mean that at the very least, Obama didn't have any serious problems with what Wright was saying?

Well, we saw after eight years of Obama that that was probably true – that Obama saw America in a bad light.  That's why he kept trying to "fundamentally transform" it.

But what about Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch?  He belongs to a far-left church that embraces marriage redefinition, gun control, and the theory of man-caused global warming.

He belongs to St. John's Episcopal Church in Boulder, Colo., the Episcopal diocese of Colorado confirmed on Wednesday. Church bulletins show that the judge has been an usher three times in recent months. His wife Louise frequently leads the intercessory prayer and reads the weekly Scripture at Sunday services, and his daughters assist in ceremonial duties during church services as acolytes.

The first word that St. John's uses to describe itself on its website and Facebook page is "inclusive," and the church is led by a female rector. On its website, the church encourages members to write letters to Congress asking for actions addressing climate change.

That's not all.  Its website also calls for members to lobby their congressmen for more gun control.

And more:

Rev. Susan Springer has said she is pro-gay marriage and offers blessings to same-sex couples

The church's Rev. Ted Howard also signed a letter slamming the 'disrespectful rhetoric' directed at Islam as Trump floated a ban on Muslim immigrants[.] ...

>>All I have done is cite the words of Jesus in Matthew 25.

And completely ignored their context in His teachings.

Luke 17:1-4

17 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. 2 It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. 3 So watch yourselves.

"If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him."

NIV

Matt 5:17-20

17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

NIV

You can't willfully teach false doctrine and then expect to get a pass because you gave a homeless guy a pair of socks and some soup.

Rev 21:8

8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars — their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

NIV

I’m not putting words in Jesus’ mouth. I’m only citing what He said. If you have any isdue, it is with Jesus.

I had nothing to do with the Lord describing the division of sheep and goats on Judgement Day. Jesus spoke it of His own divine authority. Anyone with a problem or issue re this description has a problem/issue with God.

>>I had nothing to do with the Lord describing the division of sheep and goats on Judgement Day.

That's right, you didn't - but what you did do was to try and use it to assert that there's no accountability for teaching false doctrine.

Matt 25:31-43

31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

NIV

FAIL.

Has it been reported that he still beats his wife or that he matriculated with his sister yet, or is that being held for nest week? Donald nominated him and I trust Donald’s judgment. If he turns out bad, then it will be the first time a President has made a mistake in nominating a candidate for the Supreme Court. And if it did not bother Donald, it doesn’t bother me.

The other day I looked inti Gorsuch’s background. Until his teens, he lived in and around Denver where he was born. Boulder is just outside Denver within 25 miles. So when he was appointed to the 10th circuit which is in Denver, it was a homecoming for him. I suspect, but cannot yet prove, that he returned to a childhood church, to a church where perhaps old friends attend, or to a childhood denomination in the vicinity of where he now lives.

None of this is to suggest he is a theologically deep Christian and might be a cultural Christian, for all I know. Many select churches for these reasons simply not caring about historic Christian theology one way or another.

Additionally, I call your attention to the sexually immoral churches of Thyatira and Pergumen in Revelation and call you to note that the Lord does not command that believers in those churches should leave them.

He does call on them not to partake of their ways. Apparently, it was possible for them to still be a light even within those places.

Nor, however, does he command them to stay.

Biblical ignorance is crippling.

Matthew 25 has nothing to do with “Judgement Day.”

He is speaking of the Day of Trumpets, when his eternal assembly will be changed in the twinkling of an eye, from corrupt mortality to incorruptible bodies that are equipped to live in the realm of Yehova.

Judgement day comes 1000 years later, as stated in Revelation 20:

[1] And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
[2] And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
[3] And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
[4] And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
[5] But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This (those that reign with messiah for 1000 years) is the first resurrection.
[6] Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

I've already answered it.

Doing the good works cited in Matthew 25 does not negate the penalties for teaching false doctrine.

In this instance the false doctrine is the acceptance of homosexual abomination of nature and the willful perversion  of Jesus' clear mandate for marriage:

Mark 10:6-9

6 "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'a 7 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,b 8 and the two will become one flesh.'c So they are no longer two, but one. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

NIV

Those who teach false doctrine are to be avoided...

Rom 16:17-19

17

I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. 18 For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.

NIV

...because the penalties are CLEARLY articulated:

Rev 21:8

8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars — their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

NIV

I know. I grew up in Denver and used to drive to Boulder on weekends to climb.

I wouldn’t want to raise a family there.

It seems Gorsuch feels otherwise.

We’re not going to be separated into groups of goats and sheep on the basis of good works. That is not the point Jesus makes in Matthew 25.

The sin against the Holy Spirit is the conscious, persistent, stubborn, unyielding refusal of someone who was at one time a believer to acknowledge his or her sin, be sorry for it, and desire God's forgiveness in Christ.

http://www.lcms.org/faqs/doctrine

Do the members of a "church" who condone homosexual marriage acknowledge their sin?
