Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he has "serious concerns" about Judge Neil Gorsuch after meeting with the Supreme Court nominee on Tuesday and struggling to get straight answers from him.
"The judge avoided answers like the plague. This president is testing fundamental underpinnings of our democracy and its institutions. These times deserve answers and judge Gorsuch did not provide them. I have serious, serious concerns about this nominee," Schumer told reporters during Democrats' weekly press conference.
Schumer said he'd asked Gorsuch specifically about whether a ban on Muslims entering the country would pass constitutional muster and what his view was on the emoluments clause of the Constitution a conflicts-of-interest clause Democrats say President Trump violated because of his refusal to fully divest from his businesses when he became President.
"I asked him about the emoluments clause and he refused to even say what the framers thought about that clause," Schumer complained.
The Democratic leader didn't fully close the door on voting for Gorsuch, but the comments were the latest indication that he's ready to dig in his heels and battle the nomination.
And while Schumer said the nomniee is "clearly a very smart, polite and capable man who loves being a judge," he warned that his nomination "comes at a perilous time in the relationship between the executive and judicial branches."

I’m sure he had the same “serious concerns” before the meeting as well.
yeah Chucky, like you really know all the ins and outs... Some staffer/attorney asked you to ask him a question they wouldn’t answer.
Clown... we are over your grinning act......

lf THIS goes Straight Party line vote....it’s a sad day for America along with the many sad days these last few years with the Democrat party going to hell in a hand basket

Whatever Chuckie. You weren’t going to vote for his confirmation anyways so spare us the “I’m concerned” statements.
Sorry Chuck, you said you were going to fight Trumps pick before you knew who it was, no one believes that you coincidentally don’t like this guy now that you met him.
OK, maybe Schumer would like Cruz better...
Exactly! Why even give him a meeting? Must have been painful for Gorsuch.
There is no “emoluments clause” saying the president can’t hold a business. It only says he can’t accept gifts from a foreign state. Democrats can’t tell the difference, apparently.
I have serious concerns about Schumer after learning that he has accepted donations from Soros in the past. I find that more worrisome than Gorsuch being tied to the CFR 23 years ago...
I’m shocked!
No, you are incapable of “serious” concerns, Schmuckie. You have douchebag concerns.
The so called concerns of Chuckie, Pelosi, ? fill in the blank don’t even reach the level of fakes news.
Concerns of the lying liberals is not even fake news.
It had to be torture for Gorsuch to sit with that fool.
Dear Chuckie,
a ban on all Moslems entering the country would not only pass constitutional muster, with a score of 100+ percent.... it would be in accordance with previous immigration policies over our American history
please read your American history, also our Constitution and our laws that are on the books (charging the president with the responsibility to deny or revoke visas to anybody or any groups of persons that he deems a threat to USA)
probably, since you’ve been in WashDC so long, probably those laws were passed while you were there?
Dear Chuckie,
asking the nominee if he thinks DJT’s order about certain limited numbers of Moslems from terrorist dens...entering USA...would ‘pass constitutional muster?”
only displays your ignorance of both our US Constitution and the immigration laws that are already on the books
it would make you look a whole lot better if you did a little homework first.. and then asked questions which displayed some knowledge of American history and our legal system
I have serious concerns about Chuck-u Shumer and I’ve never even met him.
