Chinese official says U.S. should stop using Dalai Lama to stir up trouble

BEIJING The United States should stop using the Dalai Lama to create trouble for China, a senior Chinese official in charge of Tibet affairs told an influential state-run newspaper.
The U.S. is damaging ties with China, said Zhu Weiqun, head of the ethnic and religious affairs committee of the top advisory body to Chinas parliament, according to the Global Times.
The Global Times, a tabloid known for writing strongly worded, hawkish and nationalist editorials, is published by the Communist Partys flagship paper.
In response to recent written questions from the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, new Secretary of State Rex Tillerson gave an affirmative answer when asked if he would commit to receiving and meeting the Dalai Lama. Tillerson also said he would continue to encourage dialogue between Beijing and representatives of the Tibetan government-in-exile and the Dalai Lama, India-based news service thetibetpost.com reported on Thursday.
China says the Dalai Lama, who fled into exile in India after a failed uprising against Chinese rule in 1959, is a violent separatist. The Dalai Lama denies espousing violence and says he only wants genuine autonomy for Tibet.

India will be next. I wonder if we’ll sell or gift them the recently decommissioned aircraft carrier Enterprise?
The Lama, if somewhat naive, at least has a benevolent worldview. We could use far more of this in the world. I pray boldly, of course, that the Lama might find God and that the benevolent intention of his heart would be matched with power.
India is an interesting spiritual scene. Approximately 80% Hindu, 14% Islam, 6% miscellaneous (official Christian and others).
I’m saying official Christian because, as I believe I have observed, it’s possible for Hindus to be unofficial Christian. Since they will worship any deity, they can also choose to worship Jesus and nobody among them considers that odd. This may be accompanied by some unorthodox ideas. But the bible promise is “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household.” Not even “Believe the right set of ideas and you will be saved.” The Lord is quite capable of teaching whatever a believer needs to be taught prior to passing through the pearly gates.
Perhaps Christendom has ignored this door of opportunity too often. Allowing for the Indian style in worship of Jesus could open a host of evangelistic doors.
P!
If you can cultivate the right attitude, your enemies are your best spiritual teachers because their presence provides you with the opportunity to enhance and develop tolerance, patience and understanding.

Thanks for that post - a good reminder of what really counts in being a Christian.
I shared a gospel (Jesus) message with a Hindu boss that way. He was a seeker even before then, a man truly bent on pursuing good will. But good will needs to be more than an abstraction in order to really get any grip in a life, or else the first trial will completely sweep it away. It needs to be rooted in an entity. To talk about Jesus in this context seemed to be a natural. It was like presenting a custom tailored shoe to a person trying to walk barefoot.
Now the relationship has been tested. This boss was very kind to me during a period of health related trials in my life. But then the HR of the company (a major H1B onshorer) got wind of the situation and summarily kicked me out (but not before lying about me). No, these weren’t Hindus... this was a worldly Hispanic. I could write volumes about modern HR trends to political correctness but won’t do so right here. I’m pondering whether to bother fighting it (I really feel for that boss, who was not at fault here, and want to see his kindness vindicated).
Like I said, benevolence even if somewhat naive (one does need to oppose wrong, wisely).
Jesus said, bless your enemies. That doesn’t mean approve of what they are doing. But being embroiled in wrongdoing also embroils them in curses. To take leave of the wrongdoing also means to take leave of the curses.
There are growing movements in China that do embrace benevolence. One is explicit Christian. There are also Buddhist movements like the banned Falun Gong. The Communist government hates them because they present plausible alternatives.
I thought we liked them? A sixty-year-old, worn out, defueled aircraft carrier is not much of a gift.
There is plenty of cheap labor available to refurbish it. love your enemies? They ma have to kill them first.
The Chinese tend to get short with anyone who criticizes their imperialist military land grabs.
Not likely.
Prediction: we will soon learn that all the “Free Tibet” stickers on battered Volvos is just moral posturing.
Ohhhh, how dare the U.S. give an old man who has lost his country and millions of countrymen a kind word and a cup of tea now and then. Does he get much else? A lunch? An actual dinner?
Suck it, Beijing, your karma is dog crap.
Corrected for accuracy.
