Well it’s just temporary until Sessions is confirmed.
And I’m sure Trump verified that he would support and defend the ban before he named him.
From what I'm reading, it appears that Trump's team did some advance vetting of US Attorneys for just such a contingency. Note that they had him chosen and appointed in under three hours.
