>>Because of pure greed manufactures will start to produce on this side of the border and pocket that money since the will charge the going rate.
And when PartX on my truck dies and I go to Bigly Auto Parts, who rolls the 30% tarrif into the price of PartX, - that benefits me how?
With the defeat of its army and the fall of its capital, Mexico entered into negotiations to end the war. The treaty called for the U.S. to pay $15 million to Mexico and to pay off the claims of American citizens against Mexico up to $3.25 million. It gave the United States the Rio Grande as a boundary for Texas, and gave the U.S. ownership of California and a large area comprising roughly half of New Mexico, most of Arizona, Nevada, and Utah, and parts of Wyoming and Colorado. Mexicans in those annexed areas had the choice of relocating to within Mexico’s new boundaries or receiving American citizenship with full civil rights. Over 90% chose to become U.S. citizens.

This will certainly hurt a lot of the lower income and semi-employed workers who voted for Trump in middle America. If those folks vote in 2020 that could be the end of the Trump presidency. If they vote in 2018 that could be the end of the solid Republican Congress.
No, it’s beyond horror. It’s a world I can’t imagine
The one time increase of price due to the tariff is well worth it. The up side to repatriation of manufacturing is huge.
The 20% will ultimately be paid mostly by low income Americans or by poorly paid Mexican workers who will then have even more incentive to flee to the US.
On the other hand a 2% to 7% remittance fee taken from the $26billion sent to Mexico each year would pay for the wall. Eventually a lot of these illegals might work to become citizens so they would no longer need to pay that fee. By that time the wall would have been built.
That smells like a bunch of Ivory tower bullshyte that a professor, who hasn’t been to Biggly Auto Parts or laid under a truck lately installing hechod en mehico parts lately, might emit.
The alleged purpose of this tax is to PAY FOR THE WALL.
Tax the Bits flowing South.
NO SALE.
I am in favor of tariffs of all kinds like my true Conservative ancestors in the Republican Party before WWII. We need to get back to that. Anything is better than the income tax.
Looks like you should have voted for Hillary then you Neo Con.
It is unlikely that the US will be able to increase winter fruits and vegetables to the degree we are needing what we get from Mexico. Of course, if global warming is true, then I might be wrong and we could produce more eventually.
Don’t worry, I didn’t.
OK, this is the first decision where I have to break from Trump. This is a terrible, terrible, terrible idea that only punishes the American worker and American taxpayer.
Mexico gets taxed on NOTHING in this case. This is not the way to get this done.
They do defecate all over law abiding Americans, but they couldn’t have done it without all that help from our government.
Don’t want to fight or anything-just feel like that part of it is something we should never forget.
I suppose it goes without saying though.... How many of us could truly forget such an offense?
Tariffs are a great idea we need more of them and less income taxes.
How is it a great idea? I’m not seeing it. Mexico isn’t paying one cent under this scenario, we are.
If Pinata is smart, his next move would be to create an import tax on American goods. So not only will we be paying more for goods from other countries, but we won’t be exporting our own goods because Mexicans will start buying from other countries.
Correct. Our own government was the root cause of all of this and not just our violent costly borders. Government failed in every direction on every issue and it was the American tax payers who got looted and took the brunt of this terrible reckless leadership.
The wall is going to be built. I just like the idea of a tariff on Mexico. So good.
Is Mexico pitching a fit over it? I haven’t read anything to support that.
Solve 1 thing at a time.
Pay for the wall by taxing the Bits on their way South.
Deport the illegal immigrants who are taking American jobs and give American citizens time to apply and be hired into those vacancies so we can get back on our feet.
This tax “plan” dumps the cost of the wall on Americans who have no choice but to buy Hecho’d En Mehico parts for vehicles we depend upon.
WRONG ANSWER.
I am old school Conservative like the old Republican Party was before WWII. Back when American had industrial strength balls.
