Just days after The National Park Service (NPS) was forced to shut down its Twitter activity over two retweets the Department of the Interior deemed inconsistent with the agencys mission, the Twitter account for Badlands National Park in South Dakota seems to have gone rogue, tweeting numerous scientific facts about climate change that have since been deleted. The first tweet about climate science came at 11:40 a.m. local time Tuesday. It said: The pre-industrial concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was 280 parts per million (ppm). As of December 2016, 404.93 ppm.

400 ppm was supposed to be some catastrophic concentration. You can get your “I survived 400 ppm CO2” clothing at http://www.cafepress.com/unclegear/10094147
Read and article this evening which told that it was a former park employee who had the twitter account password. The tweets have since been deleted.
Lets review the real FACTS.
The pre-industrial concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere IS ESTIMATED* TO BE 280 parts per million (ppm). As of December 2016, it was accurately measured with modern scientific methods (calibration unknown)to be 404.93 ppm.
* estimated as in a guess.
I believe they are predicting that the solar cycle is headed to a grand solar minimum.
Whatever you say boss.
If they have enough staffing to tweet scientific facts, which is not their proper role, then they are overstaffed. It was nice of them to help President Trump identify another area to cut.
There must have been some really fine measurement instruments in that pre industrial era to get such precise numbers.
And the plants and trees are loving it!
CO2 went from 280 to 405 ppm? The plants around the Earth are loving it.
Yes, while the article does state that the CO2 levels were much higher then, they still seem to come up with how dangerous it is for our future.
“We are now producing more CO2 than all volcanoes on Earth,” van der Meer added. “We will affect climate in ways that are unprecedented and unnatural. The question is how much climate will change. We can now answer this for the past and apply [it] to the future by extrapolation.”
We are now producing more CO2 than all volcanoes on Earth ...
Has any body fact checked that morsel? Seems a tad off ...
I agree that it should be fact checked.
The warming of the sun due to the plasma and subsequent electrical activity generated by sunspots means solar radiation is more intense. This started in the mid 1700s, but took approximately 50-75 years to warm the Earth out of the Little Ice Age. That puts us right at the beginning of the Industrial (steam powered, coal generated) Industrial era.
As the Earth warmed up, it released thousands, perhaps millions, of tons of carbon dioxide from previously dozen areas.
That last sentence should read:
As the Earth warmed up, it released thousands, perhaps millions, of tons of carbon dioxide from previously frozen areas.
A block of soil at 32 degrees F outgasses very little. As it warms, outgassing increases. The gasses that come out of a warming block of soil?
Oxygen, Hydrogen, Carbon, Nitrogen. Moat of these are paired with oxygen molecules, like H2O, CO2, NO, etc.
