Veterans are furious over a proposed state budget cut that will eliminate the firing detail at veteran funerals.
The Connecticut state military said funding for the gun salutes will run out around April.
Meanwhile Connecticut state university and colleges, along with Hartford and New Haven, have declared themselves sanctuary cities. And state employees were given fat raises at the end of December.

they have money to give to illegals but not to give to soldiers to have a proper and decent burial and celebration of their service.
...
At a press conference earlier this month, Malloy said of the cuts he has made, We have been surgical in the decisions we have had to make. Some of those are tough decisions. Thats odd. Only three months ago, at 4:32 p.m. on the day before Christmas Eve, Malloys administration announced pay raises of as much as 12 percent for state commissioners and his top aides.
The governors budget chief, Ben Barnes, who struggled to defend the Christmas raises when they were announced, saw his salary increase from $187,000 to $210,000 a year. Hes the official who declared after Novembers election that Connecticut is in a permanent fiscal crisis. The Malloy-Barnes budget would rather see the burden of that continuing crisis be borne by fallen veterans than the selfish circle around the governor.

We could pay for this by cutting deportations.
Just change the salute to a 21 gun firing squad.
BS, they just don’t like guns.
Geez. Veteran freepers would be willing to provide the personnel, the rifles, the blanks, and the time. Vestiges of political correctness there.
I am not 100% certain of this, but I think these military funeral honors in Nebraska are done completely by volunteers and donation funding. I do not think the state government has anything to do with it.
They need the money for the growing Free Stuff Army.
If the government cut about 30 million Obamaphones there will be more than enough money to honor vets.
The only exceptions have been Police Officers. Their departments provided the honor guard.
Hey, Malloy, — D r o p D e a d.
Democrats really don’t like the military and have no resp[ect for vets.
they have just been putting on a half hearted act since the public turned on them when they abused and spit on vets returning from Vietnam.
Their patience is starting to wear thin and they are dropping the pretense now.
Democrats have more concern for illegal aliens and muslim terrorists than they do for the men who gave their years and often their lives for America.
At my wife’s funeral in Wisconsin, the local American Legion post provided a very well trained seven man firing squad and a very capable trumpeter. This was in 2012.
Malloy is a scum. Too bad. Connecticut has been getting more and more liberal as people have moved further from their jobs in the City, but you’d think that by now even the libs would be tired of him.
Oh, you gotta be sh1ttin’ me. What does a 21 gun salute cost?
I figure about $20 in blank / squib rounds and another $150 to pay the ROTC to show up, stand around for an hour and then spend another 30 seconds shooting caps out of a couple of .22 rifles. At least that’s been what I’ve witnessed at the last 4 or 5 get funerals I have attended in the past 10 years.
However, if it were up to me, and I don’t care which era a vet to is from, I’d have a 21 gun salute with howitzers, and to hell with all the soccer moms and their pink pussy hats, their neutered husbands, their delicate children, all the Prius-driving, Starbucks drinking liberal douchebags and their fellow traveling BTW / SJW a$$hats.
They can blow me.
To all the aforementioned jackwagons:
This is the USA, b1tches. Show some humility, respect and gratitude for a change. Love it or leave it.
Oh, and before I forget: Take your participation trophies, “Honor Student” bumper stickers, safe spaces, safety pins, Legos, juice boxes and self-importance and shove ‘em all up your a**.
You wanna know why aliens / extra-terrestrials refuse to make contact with humanity? It’s because they look at you. You have a friggin’ disease known as liberalism and they have quarantined the entire planet because they don’t want you infect the rest of the galaxy. Which is why they only allow us to send robots and proves to the moon and Mars now. Liberals f*ck up everything.
You all need to move to Jonestown and drink the Kool-Aid. And take your stupid Prius with you.
Most sincerely,
RK
“they have money to give to illegals but not to give to soldiers to have a proper and decent burial and celebration of their service.”
Sums it up perfectly in a nutshell.
We had one for my Dad here in Minnesota. My brothers and I paid for it. That was a pretty marginal part of the funeral cost.
I’ve got 100 .308 blanks. Where do I send them?
OK, maybe I don’t fully understand this, but...
I went to the source of the article at the Hartford Courant:
-
Malloy Cut Nicks Veterans’ Funeral Honors
http://www.courant.com/opinion/op-ed/hc-op-rennie-malloy-cuts-veterans-0329-20150326-column.html
-
“Gov. Malloy cut $469,533 out of the budget for Connecticut Honor Guard members to attend military funerals.
The cut would reduce the honor guard unit to three members from the current five.”
Am I reading this wrong?
And oh, by the way, what was the protocol
for 5 men to fire a 21 gun salute?
A firing squad and pallbearers from our battery with a trumpeter from the Post Band were dispatched to funerals in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and W.Virginia. My detail participated in 5 funerals and after the first everyone in the detail realized how much the ceremonies meant to these soldiers families, so we got strack...by the next I believe we wouldn't have looked out of place at Arlington.
I think this should still be an active duty detail available to vets and families upon request. Set aside some of DoD's billions to bury veterans like our details did....with full military honors by active duty soldiers in Class A uniforms.
