Most of the 230 rioters arrested after violent protests erupted in Washington D.C. following Donald Trump's inauguration will be charged with felony rioting, federal prosecutors said on Saturday.
The charge carries a punishment of up to ten years in jail and a $25,000 fine.
Thousand of protesters launched a violent rampage just blocks away from the White House as anti-Trump demonstrators smashed store windows, set fire to cars and threw bricks at police.
Many of those arrested are due to appear in court on Saturday, according to WUSA 9.
Heated clashes broke out in McPherson Square and along K Street as hundreds of riot police fired tear gas and drew their nightsticks to contain the masked mob.
As the rioting unfolded, Trump and his family were arriving at a review stand at the White House to see the end of the inaugural parade.
Militant anti-Trump protesters gave a foretaste of what could follow during the violent outbreaks, which has so far seen 217 people arrested and at least six police officers injured.

Actually, I’d go a different route. I’d drag them into the court and offer the deal...if they damaged property, five years of prison and $20k fine OR they wear a GPS ‘cuff’ on their leg and only go to work, attend church, and grocery shopping (for three years). I’d force them to rehab themselves voluntarily.
They should all get the max. Unfortunately, liberals in “justice” system will probably let them off with only a wrist slap, if anything.
It’s DC police and courts, not the DOJ.
Ultra-liberal prosecutors and judges will probably go very easy on the SOBs. Trump has no control over what they may do, beyond possibly issuing a public statement which will be ignored by the DC Democrats.

I wouldn’t bet on it. Trump expects results and he will have them.
They kept down the number of visitors to the Inaugural festivities which suppressed our right to assemble and participate in the democratic process and enabled our opponents to gleefully report on smaller crowds for Trump which attempts to delegitimize his Presidency.
He has no say at all over what DC prosecutors and judges do, period.
If he tried to influence them he would just provoke an intense libtard backlash in the DC legal circles, without achieving anything. It is not a winnable fight in the very short term of these specific cases, although he can certainly work to change the national discussion and policies over time.
And at the inauguration they were protesting and blocking people from attending. “Terrorising” any that tried to get to where they were going.
I agree - charge them with terrorism.
You’re too easy on them! LOL
Many of these protesters expect a slap onnne wrist and are proud of it. If the violent ones start getting felony charges, including charges for property they destroy that will stop moist of this crap real quick when others realize they will spend years, not hours behind bars
I agree, but that has nothing to do with what DC prosecutors and judges will actually do with these specific cases. They don’t care. They approve of what the scumbags were trying to accomplish.
The sentencing doesn’t matter. The fact that people who riot in the streets of America are liable to be charged with a crime for which they risk a decade in prison will do a great job of separating the fellow traveler college student types and those who still aspire to be upwardly mobile from the hard core communist black lives matter islamist types.
The Antiyuppie ~ Weeks? Weeks?
The current guests would insure that a couple weeks would be a life sentence for the kafirs...
They are violating federal law. Trump appoints the Federal prosecutors.

The legal system is going to get the same shock to the system that the rest of the government is experiencing. If they flout the law they’ve sworn to uphold, then Trump will vilify them and go around them and I will support him every step of the way.
Very good point, Ciexyz. I hope you repeat this on other threads when relevant. I will.
Why? DJT is president now. He knows this has to be stopped or else his supporters will be in danger, HE will be in danger, and will unable to govern. He can’t have riots everywhere all the time for the next four years or more. This has to STOP ASAP.
Charge then with a federal crime, and even more charges for the ones who blatantly organized this violence and paid for it.
CBS reporting it’s a 250K dollar fine not 25K. And if they don’t pay it, its a FEDERAL CHARGE not a local state charge they’ll have a warrant out for their arrest until it gets paid.
It’s FEDERAL prosecutor, it’s a FEDERAL charge not a state or DC issue.
The majority will be let go with at most a minor slap on the wrist.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
I wouldn’t count on Soros paying their fines.
