Iraq: Retreating ISIS leaves behind unfinished fighter jet in Mosul
International Business Times ^ | 1/19/2018 | Arkadev Ghoshal

The Islamic State group — also known as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) — was seemingly building a fighter jet it intended to use against the Iraqi security forces capturing Mosul from the terrorist group. However, with the forces pushing them back, ISIS has left the unfinished aircraft in Mosul. The fighter jet seems to be one of the many ways in which ISIS was planning to mount an offensive against the US-backed Iraqi security forces. Recently, evidence has surfaced showing that the terrorist group was looking to develop chemical weapons with raw materials at the Mosul University. That ISIS had drones and was using it extensively has been widely known for quite some time now. However, this fighter jet is something that has not been seen before. If it had been operational, ISIS would have been possibly the only the second terrorist group in the world to have had attack capabilities like that through air — the first being the Sri Lanka-based LTTE, which exists no more. Is this an actual photo of the “jet fighter” they’re trying to build up?

There are more advanced kit planes. What a cobbled together POS.

That some "journalist" could call that aerodynamic embarrassment a "fighter jet" is an indication that both the builders and the scribbler who wrote this story are, at best, childishly stupid.

Whoever found it should give it all back to ISIS. It would kill one, perhaps two, the first time they revved it up...

Well, if the pilot sat in the seat and made vroom vroom noises interspersed with random shouts of Aloha Snackbar, they’d probably call it good.

After a little work you could drop a quarter in and get it to rock back and forth.

Looks like a “homebuilt airplane”. Google it or Experimental Aircraft Assn. It does not look like any plans-built homebuilt that has been covered by Air Progress or Sport Aviation over the last 40 years or so. Looks like they were making it up as the went along. Looks like the wing rib was awfully far back for it to balance. Don’t think it would fly very far (maybe over the ditch at the end of the runway).

100% agree. CG is clearly too far aft. You can SEE the obvious piston engine. Looks like a crappy DIY project.
