Trump team prepares dramatic cuts
The Hill ^ | 1/19/17 | Bolton

Donald Trump is ready to take an ax to government spending.

Staffers for the Trump transition team have been meeting with career staff at the White House ahead of Friday’s presidential inauguration to outline their plans for shrinking the federal bureaucracy, The Hill has learned.

The changes they propose are dramatic.

The departments of Commerce and Energy would see major reductions in funding, with programs under their jurisdiction either being eliminated or transferred to other agencies. The departments of Transportation, Justice and State would see significant cuts and program eliminations.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting would be privatized, while the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities would be eliminated entirely.

Overall, the blueprint being used by Trump’s team would reduce federal spending by $10.5 trillion over 10 years.

The danger, of course, is that Trump will be goaded by a news story and erupt with a tweet that sabotages an opportunity that may never come again.

D@mn straight maybe we should keep Obama he doesn't tweet.

Time to review all these SS Disability Claims, especially the ones for young People who claim they are too Emotionally fragile to work for a living.

All I see on daytime TV, when I watch my DVR’d Judge Judy Shows (LOL) are Ads for Disability Lawyers who will get you your check. In fact, they will come to you!

They always show young people in the Ads, and none of them as far as I can tell are sitting in Wheelchairs or missing Limbs.

As far as I am concerned, the Frauds are stealing money from the People who need it, just like Illegal Invaders are stealing my Sovereign Vote while the Politicos not only let them get away with but encourage it.

As soon as Emotional Problems became a “disability” instead of obvious Physical issues, the SS Disability Dam burst.

The government should not be providing children medicine.

Cut both programs.

there can be no sacred cows anymore. Everything has to be on the table for cuts.

Democratic campaign slogan in the making for sure, we wonder why we keep losing. Maybe an across the board cut to all government salaries equal to the loss of salary to the middle class. There hasn't been a cost of living increase to Social Security for 8 years and Obama raided Medicare to pay for medicaid so they have been cut already but perhaps you didn't notice. Did you notice when Bill decide to tax SS and the dead?

So, you are not in favor of eliminating government to meet what would be needed to keep those programs untouched?

You are a freaking BIG Government lover.

For one thing, I'm pretty damn sure Mitch McConnell's wife is not going to be overseeing a shrinking U.S. Department of Transportation.

I'm pretty sure that part of the interview of Elaine Chou included what the plans for the dept are and if she is able to carry out those plans. If Elaine Chou wasn't on board, she wouldn't have gotten the job.

We are not going to get a $10 trillion cut without passing entitlement reform, with or without the objection of the voters.

We don't know what can be done because we really don't have a clue what is being done. Where did Obama get the 500 million he gave to the global warming arm of the UN today?

Congress is never going to allow this.

"Allow"? Congress has already ceded most of its authority to the Executive branch. Trump will do what the people elected him to do.

?????

I don't follow. I am in favor of balancing the federal budget and starting to pay down the debt. I am in favor of doing this without tax increases. But I also understand the basic structure of the budget. Entitlements are over 60 percent of the budget and are the portion that has grown relentlessly for decades, with no end in sight. Defense is currently about 16 percent. I'm old enough to remember Richard Nixon boasting when defense spending slipped below 50 percent of federal outlays; both as a share of the budget and as a share of GDP, and despite short term upticks when we get into a war, defense has steadily declined for many years. Debt service is about six percent. Everything else -- "general government" -- is about 16 percent, and has been relatively stable for many years.

All I am saying is that we cannot finance rapid, open-ended growth in entitlements, already the lions' share of federal outlays, by cannibalizing the much smaller and relatively no-growth programs.

Are there domestic discretionary programs I would like to see cut? Of course. A lot of them. There are also a few I would like to grow, and many that perform basic, taken-for-granted functions that we probably want to continue at current levels. But the arithmetical reality is that nothing we do on discretionary spending will make much of a difference if we don't tackle entitlements. Defund the CPB. Fine. Defund 101 similar small programs. Fine. You will not, however, have saved enough money to put a serious dent in the problem. What these exercises do primarily is generate talking points and the illusion of action, as a smokescreen for politicians who then take a dive on entitlements.

That’s all very nice. And it ignores the 800lb gorilla: so-called “entitlements”. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, 0bamacare, SNAP, TANF, WIC etc. are collectively the real budget-buster, and must end. The alternative is uncontrollable, unserviceable debt leading to financial collapse.

THIS is how you clean out the obama ideologues that have infested the U.S. civil service in all departments: you simply eliminate their positions in the Congressional budget and lay them off. Absolutely no need to actually fire anyone at these lower levels. No muss, no fuss, no lawsuits.

In my dreams! He still needs Congress to pass this though, right?

As far as PBS, is that not a private organization already?
