That is ridiculous. Body cameras are for the protestors’ protection, too, so I don’t understand their reluctance to have them on - unless, dare I suggest, they intend to cause damage and don’t want to be filmed in the act, just afterwards. The city police either have snowflake attorneys or this is intentional compliance to keep protestors from being prosecuted.
There is no expectation of privacy when out in public.
They would do this because TPTB don’t want a record that Trump’s AG office could use effectively to prosecute low-lifes disrupting the inauguration.
>Youd think the cops would want the body cams for their own protection, liability etc. This especially after hundreds of threats of violence from Democrats leading up to this event.
It’s so they can turn a blind eye to the protestors beating the crap out of Trump supporters while they arrest Trump supporters who fight back. They’re attempting to replicate what happened in California to Trump supporters on a grand scale.
I learned as a newly minted Ensign that it is easier to beg forgiveness than get permission.

It could be seen as providing the ability to develop a database of people who protest peacefully.
Most all events like this nowadays are accompanied by one or more cops who are designated as cameramen anyway. So they can still ID the people who are not wearing masks.
If they really wanted privacy even though they were being recorded, they could just put those bandanas around their faces. Frankly, I don’t even think those should be allowed because it makes it harder to identify people who committed crimes.
No fun at all if hardly anyone sees it.
Well let me explain.
I can watch a surfer surfing a pipeline wave, but you don’t see it as they do without a body cam.
When the officers are facing a wave of people directly in front of them, and you can see faces and hear comments, you will know what they had to deal with.
The protesting won’t be about Trump. It will be denigrating anyone who tries to stop criminality, the officers on the street.
The public should hear those comments, and see those faces. They should see things thrown and officers seeing the object flying at their faces.
Could be. We’ll see.
They should be ON. What are they afraid of, filming a violent rioter? Guess so, as they’d have to arrest and prosecute them. What stupidity.
You’re kidding yourself if you think government employees of any number in the District don’t back the protesters.

Well, that should be changed at 12:01 pm on Jan 20th, 2017. Everybody don the cameras then!
They don’t want any documentation of the thugs doing illegal things.
Our people should have their smart phones charged and ready to record and store on a cloud if someone takes away their phone.
Or wear Go Pros with your MAGA Hats.
Don’t be by yourself and not in a tight group.
Record every thug action and get it to the cloud to be used then and later.
When the La Raza thugs attacked Trump supporters in San Jose when Trump visited, the La Raza Mayor and Chief of police refused to do anything. Suddenly there were videos taken by people watching the thuggery showing up on local tv stations an online. That resulted in a reversal by the thugs’s mayor and police chief. They arrested their thugs.
Same thing happen in Chicago and a few places afterwards when Trump supporters were attacked. Then, that bs stopped.
Be safe and proactive with smart cameras and Go Pros.
Seems to me you still can’t see this from the officer on the street’s perspective, and I think that is very important.
Any jury will be able to make a better decision, if they can see what these hateful people were doing.
Each officer will need to show what they were responding to.
If this is true,it is to not photograph communist anarchists.
