NAACP demands Trump apologize to John Lewis

The NAACP President Cornell William Brooks is calling on Donald Trump to apologize to Alabama Rep. John Lewis, after attacking the civil rights icon in a series of tweets.

“By disrespecting John Lewis, Donald Trump dishonored Lewis' sacrifice & demeaned Americans & the rights, he nearly died (for). Apologize,” Brooks tweeted.

According to Google: Atlanta was recently ranked (October 2012) as the sixth most dangerous city in the United States among cities of more than 200,000 residents. According to Forbes the city has a violent crime rate of 1,433 per 100,000 and has experienced a violent crime rate rise of six percent in 2011.

Sympathetic media praises this Lewis character as one who almost died at the Selma peace march. I've not studied black history, but I believe nothing of the sort happened there. Tussling with police (democratically controlled, btw. e.g. Bull Connor) is a far cry from "almost killed."
