In all fairness, he was arrested for standing up for Civil Rights, which wasn't a crime but was treated as one.
Of course, the fact that it was the Democrats who did the arresting, and is the same party that runs the cities where blacks are gunned down in such large numbers now, is lost on the left.

What was the black unemployment rate, the percentage of out of wedlock births in black families, and the number of black men in jail fifty years ago? There are so many problems in black communities all over this country, but fossils like Lewis still want to blame the white boogeyman for everything. Blacks are the problem and the solution to what ails them, but you can’t have a rational discussion with most of them on these issues. They’re still dominated and controlled by the same political party that physically enslaved them until 150 years ago, and has done so much damage to them as a people throughout this nation’s history.

But it’s OK for Lewis to insult Trump. As for his “civil rights” record, what’s he done lately? Trump was right to point out the abject failure of this “civil rights icon” in improving the lot of his district.
Arrest records were not a big deal then, the idea then was that the Army (military) would get you straightened out. Judges were actually giving people a choice of jail or military service. In many cases a hitch in the military did get people to line out and go forward to be responsible citizens.
I love democrat hypocrisy. A contemptible jerk like Lewis must have his entire modern life ignored but celebrated for something 50 years ago. While a republican should have their entire life defined by some unconfirmed bullying in a private school ignoring everything else in his life (Romney).
Ted Kennedy got drunk and killed a woman and face ZERO punishment and was celebrated by the dems. Infact, he loved jokes about the incident. GW Bush faces the fire and pleaded guilty for a DUI and that one event must define everything about Bush.
A long time Klan member like, Robert Byrd, will have his entire life ignored because he became a liberal democrat so all is forgiven. YET, a lifetime of achievement and success, like Trump, must have his entire life ignored because he dared become a republican.

These books go back to Fulton County convicts in the seventies. His father, grandfather, uncle, and brothers are all in these books somewhere”.
There were thousands upon thousands of mugshots in each book. There were thousands upon thousands of books stacked against the wall.

My first vote was for Gorge Bush Sr. I didn’t like the guy much, but he was better than Clinton. Every vote since has been eh, our guys sucks but the Dem is worse. This is the first election that I was quite enthusiastic about my candidate and my enthusiasm has only grown since he won.
