Global investors are fleeing Mexico's financial markets, sending the peso to record lows on mounting concerns that Donald Trump's trade policy could end the country's privileged status among developing countries.

The peso tumbled 2% on Tuesday to another all-time low against the dollar, frustrating Mexican central-bank efforts to slow the currency's decline. Bank officials said Tuesday that they spent $2 billion last week to prop up the peso, which has weakened nearly 16% against the dollar since the U.S. election.

$2 billion in a week? The wall is going to be a LOT cheaper in the long run. And Trump hasn't even served his first day in office!

I'm thinking all the Messy-can bravado will come to an end pretty soon. Kinda looking forward to seeing their government eat crow and begin negotiating with America.

21.55 pesos per US $1. I see more Americans taking vacations down south in the future.

Probably one of the smartest things my Spanish/Mestizo ancestors did was leave Mexico 200+ years ago for what is now SW Texas and NM-the further away from the center of Spanish government, the better-apparently the place was a mess even then...

Hey, great idea. After billions of dollars spent on the war on drugs....it's gotten even worse. Tawk about a botched effort.

Without a solid barrier, military presence and increased coast guard patrols, the war on drugs was a huge farce.

No, I'll best ya one. Instead of invading a country full of cave dwellers half way round the world, we should have invaded Messy-co...decades ago. We nor they would be in the position we find ourselves today.

Viva El Chapo!

Not unless they want to be abducted, tortured and held for ransom they won’t...

Unless it is a safe area even a low peso will not help tourism

As Mexico spirals into the third world crap-hole it has always been, the smart money is leaving since there will be fewer dollars remitted into Mexico and therefore a lower economy. With the huge influx of repatriated mexicans from the US, their wages will stagnate to decline.

No, Mexico is no place to have your money. A failed third world narco-state.

So basing your economy on theft and manipulation isn't a good idea? Good to know.

Exactly. The days of Mexican violence containment away from the tourist areas are long gone. I'd especially stay away from Acapulco.

The days of Mexican violence containment away from the US is also long gone at this time.

The South West US has Mexican violence spilling over all the time.

Reason 2 why that wall and mass deportation is an absolute necessity.

If it was up to me, we’d start with mass arrests and deportations of everyone either belonging to or known to be an associate of MS13 and the 18th Streeters. That would but at least a 100k violent felons on the other side of the wall all by itself.
