House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) insisted that President-elect Donald Trump's campaign promise to deport 11 million immigrants is not going to happen.
During a CNN town hall on Thursday night, Ryan was asked by a recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program who had with her a young daughter whether she would be deported.
"I can see you love your daughter, you are a nice person who has a great future ahead of you, and I hope your future is here," he said.
"What we have to do is find a way to make sure that you can get right with the law, and we've got to do this in a good way so that the rug doesn't get pulled out from under you and your family gets separated."
CNN host Jake Tapper questioned Ryan about Trump's mass deportation plan, reminding him of the campaign promise to create a "deportation force" to round up millions of immigrants.
"I know, I know," the Speaker said, laughing. "But I'm here to tell you, in Congress, it's not happening."

Don't interfere with the state functions, not directly. Cut off all Federal aid. Cut off funding to states for thìngs like IBT and SNAP if they are used to subsidize illegals or even legal noncitizens. Cut off all federal funding to "sanctuary cities" and all funding to state programs if the states take over funding of previously federal programs in those cities. Allow, encourage even, individual states to control their own borders in the matter of illegal aliens. Arrest employers of wetbacks, down to some employers of maids and yardmen.
Of course it’s not fricking happening. You think we’re going to send stormtroopers door to door kicking through walls and demanding papers? What if they do that to you?
Speak for others often, Paul?
It would be interesting to have 4chan put together credible child abuse allegations against Paul Ryan in another 35-page report.
Although the thought of actually doing that makes me cringe, it would be interesting to compare his reaction to being called a pedophile to his nonchalance about the pissgate accusations against Trump. Let’s see how many people come to Ryan’s defense, I bet there would be many.
Traitor!
E-Verify properly enforced, results in self-deportation.
No need for unmanageable mass deportation.
“I can see you love your daughter, you are a nice person who has a great future ahead of you,...”
Since when is this grounds for not being deported? Leave and apply to be here legally. If you are a good person with a great future you will have a good chance of being let in legally.
Trump doesn’t need Congress to start deporting. All he has to do is tell BP and INS to do their jobs and follow the law.
WHY do we continue to allow our opponents to frame the argument?
I am not aware of ANY law that prevents these ILLEGAL (criminal), child loving, invaders bringing their BRATS back across the border to their country. If they truly love their brats, maybe they should be willing to die to change their own country instead of stealing the rewards from another that has made that sacrifice.
Someone should inform the moonbat Paulina Firozi at “The Hill” that it’s 40 - 50 ILLEGAL ALIENS, not “11 million immigrants.”
As for Paul RINO, President Trump is going to have to b*tch slap that open borders dirtbag real soon and real hard.
Trump won the election, NOT little Paulie.
Arrest Ryno and all the others in Congress for aiding and abetting criminals.
That is why we elected President Trump and not Paul Ryan. Real Americans want:
1. A road along the entire border, navigable by Jeep or similar vehicle, with triple strand concertina wire barriers 100-200 yards on each side monitored frequently for vandalism. That can be done very quickly and will immediately slow the crossings of illegals. We must secure the border so illegals cannot easily enter (or reenter after being deported).
2. At least one additional barrier on our side beyond those double barbed wire obstacles, whether a fence, a wall, or something else physical to prevent unauthorized passage. Plus a barrier on the Mexican side built by Mexico to avoid penalties/retaliation. We must secure the border so illegals cannot easily enter (or reenter after being deported).
3. Pregnant illegals who are not immediately deported should be held outside the United States so their anchor babies will not be US citizens.
4. All illegals who committed the crime of entering our country illegally or of overstaying after legal entry and then committed any other crime while in our country should be deported. No exceptions. Those deported should be permanently barred from any legal reentry or path to citizenship. Any state or local government with a sanctuary policy should be barred from receiving federal funds; and illegals who access social services, including schools, should be provided those services as ordered by the courts but also required to be reported to ICE.
5. All illegals who committed the crime of entering our country illegally in the past two years, and thus have not been here long enough to have stronger ties here than at home, should be deported. In other words, no new growth in our illegal population. Those deported should be permanently barred from any legal reentry or path to citizenship. No exceptions.
6. Once those are taken care of, we should deport the remaining illegals (or better, encourage them to go home on their own). Allow those who go home on their own to apply for legal reentry and legal status. Those deported should be permanently barred from any legal reentry or path to citizenship - again, no exceptions. For those who go home on their own, we should take into account in their visa applications any past history of productive work in the United States, English proficiency if they learned our language while here, and any record of living here without using welfare and other social services.
7. The only way for illegals to gain legal status should be to apply from their home countries for legal entry after voluntarily going home. Note: We also need to fix legal immigration so that the number of immigrants approved by Congress and by the President can obtain visas in a reasonable time to come here, and they can do it from the countries we wish to receive immigrants from, after thorough background checks.
Republicans voted for him because they wanted an effective opposition to their perceived enemy, Trump. Republicans are no more and no less than a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party. They will fight Trump just as hard but with less invective as the official Democrats will. They will probably not even do anything useful with obamacare. The demand to "replace" guarantees that. The best motive ascribable is that they feel sorry for all those bureaucrats and commissars that will lose their jobs if obamacare is actually repealed and NOT replaced and can't let that happen. There is too much gravy for the politicians in obamacare to not replace it with something just as (bureaucratic) labor intensive.
I’ve said it before. Any success President Trump has in fulfilling his campaign promises will happen in spite of Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, and not because of them.
Disgraceful.
Ryan is duplicitous on this subject as he is capable of changing his stripes from one room to the next. At heart, he’s a democrat!
I do not like that slimy bassturd
Ryan publicly announced they would still be skirting and ignoring the immigration laws on the books. I’m praying it will not be that way. I noticed the Trump lady who’s son was killed by an illegal, walked away after Ryan fawned over the illegal woman with the hateful face.
Ryan you can be replaced.
yet another in a long list of reasons for employers to automate.
