Senate Takes First Step To Repeal Obamacare With 51-48 Vote
ZeroHedge ^ | January 12, 2017

Early on Thursday morning, in a 51-48 vote, the Senate took the first concrete step toward dismantling Obamacare, when it voted to instruct key committees to draft legislation repealing Barack Obama's signature health insurance program. Republicans needed a simple majority to clear the repeal rules, instructing committees to begin drafting repeal legislation, through the upper chamber, with the vote falling largely along party lines.

Rand Paul was the lone Republican to vote against the budget resolution because it didn’t balance. Paul said in a statement after the vote that while he supports nixing ObamaCare "putting nearly $10 trillion more in debt on the American people’s backs through a budget that never balances is not the way to get there."

Meanwhile, no Democrat supported the repeal rules. Instead, Democrats rose one by one from their seats on the Senate floor in protest to state why they were voting against the resolution. In dramatic fashion, Bernie Sanders warned that if the GOP resolution moved forward Americans would die.

"Up to 30 million Americans will lose their health care with many thousands dying as a result," he said. "Because when you have no health insurance and you can't go to a doctor or a hospital, you die."

Sanders also mocked the Republican effort saying the GOP have never united around an alternative to Obamacare. "They want to kill ACA but they have no idea how they are going to bring forth a substitute proposal," declared Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont.

Dianne Feinstein who had surgery to install a pacemaker, missed the hours-long "vote-a-rama" session that began Wednesday evening. Lawmakers were able to use the hours-long voting block to force a vote on any amendment to the budget resolution. Some 180 amendments were filed.

Oops. Begging forgiveness. My only excuse is overnight caffeine deprivation that is still in the process of being eradicated.

You are correct. It is not a trio. It is indeed a quartet: Rand Paul, John McPain, Baby Lindsey and Bath House Marco.

So now I need a new icon. Just 3 out of 4 thorns is enough to seriously damage the Trump agenda.

“Guess Bernie is too senile to remember that we had Medicaid long before Obamacare and those poor masses were getting FREE care with no deductible or copay.”

Medicaid only covers those with the ability to squirt out a puppy every 9 or so months.

The O/care abomination will fall like a flimsy house of card....all Trump has to do is get Sessions to make some inquiries.

==========================================

ITEM----How $4.3 billion tax dollars to then-Sen Mary Landrieu (Dem-LA) was attached to the Obamacare bill, and how Obama and Harry Reid failed to catch and fix it, is yet another indictment of the Obamacare atrocity.

The payoff to Landrieu should be investigated as an indication of how EVERY Democrat came to vote for Obamacare.

BACKSTORY In the fall of 2009, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was trying to get the necessary 60 Dimocrat votes to pass the Affordable Care Act. Reid needed every Dim on board, which gave waffling senators a great deal of leverage.

In Landrieu's case, she connivingly saw that selling her aye vote could get her maybe $200 million federal dollars. Obama complied--- Reid chalked up another vote for Obamacare---but $4.3 went to Landrieu not the $200,000 she had bargained for.

<><> Was Mary the baglady for buying the Democratic straight party-line votes? <><>

THE LANDRIEU PAPER TRAIL IS HUGE Landrieu sold her aye vote for a "price." Landrieu was bought off in what Forbes Magazine dubbed "The 'Louisiana Purchase" that included a massive $4.3 Billion to Landrieu.

FORBES REPORTED the Democrats’ nailed Landrieu’s support for Obamacare w/ a greenback bribe. Landrieu, critics believe, pledged her vote in exchange for some $200 million more additional federal funds for Louisiana. Except that, due to a drafting error, the law ended up giving Louisiana $4.3 billion: more than twenty times the assigned amount.

ITEM----Obamacare was developed as a a vehicle for consolidating Dummycrat power.....w/ a multi-billion dollar slush fund. The Untraceable $8 Billion ObamaCare PR Budget---truly govt fraud at its finest.

Egged on by Pelosi, no one in Congress told Americans about Section 4002---which mandates an $8B untraceable fund to "promote" Obamacare (apparently b/c Boobamba had so little confidence in his signature legislation).

In 2010 Taxpayers are extorted $500 million, in 2011, $750 million, 2012, $1 billion, 2013, $1.25 billion, 2014, $1.5 billion and in 2015 and on, $2 billion........

....the reasons for all those O/Care delays, fixits, exemptions, waivers, extensions, etc, are becoming crystal clear.

==============================================

CALL YOUR CONGRESSMAN--- REQUEST DETAILED TAX OUTLAYS TO SUPPORT THE OCARE PR PROGRAM All tax allocations are explicitly detailed in the Congressional Record as to their use and limitations, etc.

Did they not say that most of these 30 million were illegal aliens? Or just people that do not want to pay for health care as they are young and have no health issues!!

that one included a defunding of Planned Parenthood

But they knew it wouldn't pass, I doubt it will make it into a bill that will pass because these show votes are for the rubes that believe they actually oppose abortion.

It'll pass now. So why the need for conference hearings and all the rest? Dust it off, pass it again, and Obamacare could be dead for all practical purposes by January 21.

Two interesting votes on amendments to the bill:

“Steven Dennis ;@StevenTDennis · 11h11 hours ago
Senate voted 49-49 to kill amendment to prevent discrimination against women in health insurance.
Collins, Heller joined Ds”

“...Final 46-52 vote shows crossover Democrats plus most Rs provided the margin to kill the amendment. [to allow importing drugs from Canada] Big win for Big Pharma.”

As a retired RN, I saw most poor were covered IMHO. Sadly it did nothing for those barely in middle class or those with high medical bills and a few small assets. It was great for illegals though.

Can’t wait to see the stats on “thousands” of people dying.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thousands of people will indeed die because that is what everyone does eventually.
Only then it will blamed on the loss of obamacare.
How odd that Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, at least on this instance, have proven to be more reliable than Rand Paul.
