Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced his pick for VA Secretary, the final missing piece of his cabinet. Trump has picked David Shulkin, the current Under Secretary for Health for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
If Shulkin is confirmed, he will be the first non-veteran to serve as VA Secretary. Shulkin has served as undersecretary since June 2015. He was previously was the chief executive of many hospital systems.

Geez people STOP with the knee-jerk reactions.
This is NOT the guy that was in charge for a long time under Obama- he is relatively new- maybe Trump thinks he knows what he is doing.
I trust Trump to pick/keep good people and fire them if they don’t perform.
This guy has been Under Secretary for a year and a half, not the last 8 years. His resume' is impressive...all he's done is run large medical centers and hospitals.
If he doesn't make it happen - "You're Fired"
As I said nothing could be done good for America under Obama so I will trust Trump knowing he can fire as well as hire.
Thank you for that BIO info on this man.
Being the good big government democrat he is Shulkin said last year privatizing parts of the VA would be a “terrible idea.” http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/trump-chooses-va-undersecretary-david-shulkin-head-agency-article-1.2943899
Yes, indeed. Shulkin looks to me to be a star.
He quit a $1.3 million leadership position in medicine to take the Under Secretary job at $170K a year.
We should be patient with Trump’s choice here. After all Trump has said about fixing the VA, do you think he would pick someone weak?
And as for choosing a veteran instead, that’s mostly symbolic. Pick competent people who get things done. Sounds a lot like the MSM BS: “Oh, Trump is totally qualified to be President because he was never in government before...” That’s already been proven wrong given what Trump’s done before he’s even been in office.
I would rather have a veteran health and medical expert run the VA — someone with a proven track record in that very complex field.
“We should be patient with Trumps choice here. After all Trump has said about fixing the VA, do you think he would pick someone weak?”
Absolutely! And we should stop with all the armchair quarterbacking before the fact. Those here who pi$$ and moan around about this choice or that for the various positions need to shut their traps until such time as a given appointee actually shows he or she is demonstrably ineffective or some sort of turncoat. Personally, I regard the VA as a boondoggle government jobs program at it’s core, not a hospital system for our veterans. What veterans should be demanding is a healthcare system par excellance, not a place for ill-equipped, unqualified retired military types to glom onto additional retirement benefits and/or pay.
Shulkin had also written something earlier that grabbed Trump’s attention-—about reordering the management of the VA behemoth.
Trump likes people who manage things.
Good intelligence, Liz.
And picking a staffer in the Obama administration proves he’s focused on the best people.
As I scan the stellar cabinet Trump has put together, it’s minus the political hacks. He has chosen some of the most qualified people in the world to run our government.
Imagine how competent and helpful our government will become when political know-nothings are replaced by proven leaders and people of business experience.
It’s another lie of the MSM — degrading business people and praising hacks. They have it 180 degrees wrong.
This new administration is a true victory for all the Free Republic means...
I am willing to wait and see. I am guessing that if the guy does not perform will trump will get rid of him,
