Yep. I remember that well. Shopping downtown was a special outing in those days. Mom even made us kids clean up when she'd take us along.

You only wore “slouch clothes” to do yard work (maybe not even then if it was the front yard) or to lounge around the house if you were sick, lol. Even kid’s play clothes were actually fairly presentable by comparison to what is routinely worn out in public today. A great deal more pride in appearance then, versus now.
